Since there were so many voices of the Grateful Dead I was wondering what all of your favorites were. I'm going with Brent. So much soul in his voice. Also I'm only asking about members of the Dead, not vocalists who have past away like Jim Morrison or James Brown.

I liked them all but it honestly depends on the song for me, for example lovelight wasn't the same without pigpen singing it. I especially loved jerrys voice in the 70's though, so full of life. I think this is a prime example:
Jerry's voice is so ingrained in my head I can't justify picking anyone but him.
The gates of heaven opened up every time he sang. Still haven't found a voice that strikes my emotions like Brent does.
Bob IMO has the best overall voice. Very strong and powerful.
I like how Brent sounded like a warrior when he sung.
And I also personally enjoy Donna in a lot of moments from the 70s. But sometimes she can be overbearing. Definitely better she was only with them for those 8 years.
Jerry's voice is so ingrained in my head I can't justify picking anyone but him.Yup, Jerry's voice is one of my favorites ever, let alone favorite of the members of the dead.
I'd vote for Jerry in the 70s, and Bob in the 80s and 90s. Jerry's voice went downhill, but Bob's actually improved over time.
I like Brent as a backup singer, but never dug his tunes where he sang lead.
Donna was hit or miss. She could be beyond awful, as in 73-74, and almost ruin a good Playin'. I thought she was OK in the late 70s, when she dialed it back a bit.
Phil.......ugh.

PIG ALL THE WAY!!!

Brent all day. Can't stand Donna.
I actually didn't think this thread was serious either. Who else but Jerry? Not only because he's, you know, *Jerry,* but also because he sang, you know, the Jerry songs.
...but I'm sorry I should point out that Keith barely talked...he never sang anything. He didn't even have a microphone.
I can't answer this because I'm too emotionally attached to it, but I'm sure...to an "outsider"...Brent would have the "best" singing voice. I could never pick between Bobby singing...for example...that Desolation Row from Alpine Valley '89 or Jerry's Must've Been The Roses from Chapel Hill '93.
And if I could throw Donna Jean a life raft, we must exclude '76-Early '78 when referencing those horrible shrieks. For every '74 Scarlet or Playin' you can show me, I'd have to match with a few '76 Looks Like Rains or some barn-burning '77-'78 Around-n-Arounds.
Jerry's voice is so ingrained in my head I can't justify picking anyone but him.
Keith sang a few times in September 1973, on his song "Let Me Sing Your Blues Away," from Wake Of The Flood.
