Big Cypress Question

phishiNYG Permalink
phishiNYG To those that went I have a question?

What was known about big cypress, and mainly "the show"?

Did you guys know that it was going to be a 7 hour rage fest till the sun came up? Did you know that it would be the longest set of phishtory or was it just billed as a festival?

Mainly, did you guys know what was coming? Were people aware of the plans?

Thunder yes, that was the pretty much the plan.

pnutmcsnappy Yes. It was billed that way. If I remember correctly it even stated that Phish would not leave the stage until the sun came up and security would be posted to ensure that they did not leave the stage. They did leave for a few seconds but never all at once. It's good that we knew so that we could plan accordingly. We brought enough supplies to last all night so that we wouldn't have to leave. And we didn't.

Yes, exactly. When I said "it even stated" I should have said The Schvice even stated.

It's not the same, but I would highly recommend you to listen to it from 12-7 am if you haven't already Miller. It's, once again, obviously not the same; but I had my blinds open facing east and it was incredible (even though I fell asleep for Free -> Roses)

This (minus the falling asleep part), and then put on "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles when it over. It's like you were there... almost. God it must have been amazing.

i remember it was announced in the fall that phish would play from midnight to sunrise, but there were questions about whether it was going to be several sets with breaks or one long set.

It was a dream come true.

All those nights of leaving a show after the encore and just wishing that it could just keep going, for hours, where the night didn't have to end.

Finally happened.

And no one seems to remember the traffic jams. That's how good it was.

They advertised it as a midnight to sunrise show.
Then Trey addressed the crowd during the day set on the 31st to clarify that they would not leave the stage the entire night and that they would have security on side stage to make sure they couldn't leave.
They did take a couple 10 minute breaks from what I remember. I think they basically stood around the piano during the breaks. They had a porta potty on stage!

YorkvilleBeerLover I would have loved to go to this gig - then I got invited to see Mighty Sparrow @ Foxy's in Jost Van Dyke. Being that my chick at the time was not a fan of any music that had "heavy bass" (exact quote of hers) - I decided to make the jaunt to the BVI. It was an amzing trip - and then I remeber the next day recovering from eating lawn jerk chicken, and pooping like 19 times in 2 hours - they showed Cypress on the news - and I was near crying in pain from the food poisoning - and wished I was there.

The breaks started with Page. He left the stage for 5 minutes or so. Then Trey went into the port-a let and was in there for about 5 until Fish goes up to the door and Trey lets him in. They are in there for another 5 min.or so until Brad is peaking in through the top and communicating with them. He heads off stage and returns with water and what looks like alka-seltzer fizzing in the glass. They come out and return to playing. I remember seeing all of that.
I didn't see Mike leave the stage. We walked away from our spot from Crosseyed > > > Free but I was listening for Mike to stop playing. I didn't hear it happen.
