My tool bag friend Ramey sadler lol is a huge moron and talks shit about Trey anastasio and Phish all the time. He is literally calling ppl out and destroying them from wall to wall with the nastiest most ridiculous shit you can think of. Hes so mean, i dont get it, anyways the other day him and his douche phish hating nazi's we're going on about how Sonic Youth could go on for 48 hours on stage and never run out if material to play and that it would be fresh and new throughout the 2 day concert..... Well he then said Trey/phish could never do that because "They dont improvise at all, the only improv trey plays are pre-practiced riffs and licks he learned at home" I immediately got on his case for being absolutely dumb as hell and talking shit about something he has no idea about, needless to say his lame ass pals want me to give them an example of Phish playing improv and it not being the same few cords throughout the whole song. I want to give them the best example i can of some super organic, downright amazing music they created on the spot. Please i knw you music freaks could help a dude out with his quest to shun light on the silly minded.

Im not dumb btw, i have a boat load of phish to choose from, but i know some of you have to be musically inclined so just think of my post as a question in science class. it doesn't matter what you play. no one who actually hears sonic youth and thinks its good music will ever hear quality in actual music with actual melodic and harmonic content. a sonic youth fan would probably like BBFCFM more than any other phish song you could find. at least that is loud, noisy and dissonant, like everything sonic youth has ever recorded.

OP - why not try the Ambient Jam from Lemonwheel? It doesn't sound like Sonic Youth, but it is sort of in the same spirit and is most definitely improvised the whole time.

I'd give the first 45 minutes of the second set in SF 8/19/12 and tell him this is what they are doing right now. You don't have to dig into the past like it only happens once in a while. There are millions of examples of improv Phish but I think it looks best to show something current.Side note - Sonic Youth is the worse band I've ever seen in my life. I literally, and I mean literally, cried from laughter watching them play (part of a Neil Young tour a long time ago, maybe early 90's?). One of the funniest things I've ever seen. Hats off for making it on stage before Neil (I never did) but Neil has had some weird phases and that was one of them.
Anyhow, get new friends. Some people like to be angry, and those people tend to listen to things like Sonic Youth. Casting judgement with obviously no knowledge about what he's saying makes him a giant ass anyhow. How many different tunes did SY play last year? Was it over 200? I have no idea but I'd ask him.
