So it is finals week right now and I need some good jams to help me focus while i study. So not intense hard jams (i.e.: MSG 09 First Tube). Just very mellow jams that will help me concentrate.

Pitch me some suggestions, .net.

Also, the festival jam sets may be what OP needs, like the Lemonwheel Ambient set, IT Tower Jam, and the Superball Storage Jam.

I'd actually plump for Fukukoka's Back on the Train - it's a great jam, but it's also mainly a Type I groove that the band locks into and absolutely wrings dry for all its' worth. Perfect for background music.

look up the oxy years compilations on grooveshark. That's been great lately, it's just the jams, the lyrics are mostly edited out.
The 03 jams are awesome, mellow, yet driving grooves at the same time. 2/28/03 Tweezer is insane

Stuff without words is best though.

Chopin's piano concerto no. 2 is probably my favorite study jam.
Bill Frisell will never do you wrong.
Jaco's "Honestly" solo performance is pretty good too.

Personally, I find it difficult to concentrate with Phish in the background. I find my mind drifting toward the interplay and away from what I should be focused on. Not that I need to have complete silence to focus, it's just that Phish's awesomeness is so distracting.

Classical music all the way! Came here to say this. Get some Beethoven, Bach, Mozart..you'll be set. It's waaay less distracting than some funky shredding, and it helps you study! I found this technique too late in my college career, but it definitely helped me churn out some good papers/essays. Early mornings, coffee, a little pipe-action, and some classical music

I always get really speedy off adderal/vyvanse, more so on vyvanse. Almost like a slight roll, when I take a high dose. Lol so sometimes me and my band will all take it, especially during finals time, then smoke a bowl and jam. The results are amazing. Playing becomes unconscious, fluid thought, and like I said, we lock up, almost instantaneously. Lol
We can achieve that level of playing without the drugs, but they make it happen more naturally( ironic, right?) and the Jams are significantly more focused.
If you're a musician and not against taking these drugs recreationally, than I suggest giving it a try.

I have never been on adderall before but friends of mine prefer the victor disc whilst on it. Its jazzy, low-key, and no epic solos, makes great studying music in general. Also the music of bonobo is great studying music.

Do the meds work? I've never eaten an adderall, I can remember when they became prevalent in the early 90's. a few of my friends saw the school counseler and a reccomendation was made, actually pretty crazy that the state was dictating who "should" take it, but I had 4 or 5 friends that got EM and none of EM took EM.

Got the script for them, took them for about a year and realizes it was bull shit made me feel anti social and depressed although my grades were awesome. Now I really question of ADHD is even a real thing the last year of my life without them has been treating me great... Anyone else?

I've always had this tweeked out theory that ADHD was a made up condition, aimed at kids who might be outliers.....and that historically, people with ADHD, didn't quite fit into the "mold" or society, quite as the government would like. BUT I think it really just comes down to money.....and more money.

Right on on doubt its even real, after buying into in at the time/ using it as an excuse it absolulity pisses me off that anyone would do that, it just takes a little more time for me to do some things and takes a few minutes to get my head in the right place... The god damn government for you

whenever i do homework i use long jams that are slow iwth not crazy peak
so things like
11 22 97 hallleys
7 3 00 jim

i also pick long ones so I dont have to change songs frequently.
