Where do you guys find new music?

12Next →View All

RR1994 Permalink
Just curious.

Where I turn on the radio, there are tons of rap, country, and pop stations, but no good stations for music other than that. The "rock" stations only play crappy modern alternative rock like breaking benjamin and stuff like that.

I desperately need some new music, and I'm just wondering where people find new music. I'm guessing it's not the radio. Just word of mouth?

A lot of stuff sounds new. There are even new genres that have come about in that time span. WTF are you talking about?

I've heard Alabama Shakes, they are pretty good. They are on that local "rock" station I mentioned in the OP.

I just miss the days where I was completely blown away when my friend gave me a Ween cd and was like "bet you've never heard these guys, check em' out."

Maybe, I think "a lot" is generous though. What new genres in particular are you talking about? All i'm saying is everytime i'm introduced to something so "new" it doesnt sound completely new or groundbreaking to me, even if I enjoy it it usually sounds familiar to something else.

me_no_are_no_nice_guy Check out this band called "The Bees" They also go by "Band of Bees"

They are from the UK, and have been putting albums out since 2003. Their sound ranges from 60's pschy/folk/blues/rock with a smattering of other genres thrown in. Very good band.

Their album Free The Bees is probably the best place to start.

Off the top of my head... Dubstep, Chillwave... There are others. It just depends on how deep you are willing to dig.

True, maybe it's just because im not at all an electronica guy, but i've lumped all of those with genres like trance and techno.

For something relatively new and very unique, from a band that's been around forever, try the "Exotic Creatures Of The Deep" album by Sparks, along with their "Lil Beethoven" album. You might not like it, but then again, it just might drop your jaw and blow your mind like it did for me.
My new "favorite band of all time" is the Butthole Surfers. New to me, of course... they're another band that's been around quite a while. Try diving into their 80s stuff, like the "Psychic, Powerless" album. Truly bizarre, unapologetically hard psychedelia with plenty of black humor. It's all up on Spotify.
