Just curious.
Where I turn on the radio, there are tons of rap, country, and pop stations, but no good stations for music other than that. The "rock" stations only play crappy modern alternative rock like breaking benjamin and stuff like that.
I desperately need some new music, and I'm just wondering where people find new music. I'm guessing it's not the radio. Just word of mouth?

Check out antibalas's latest album if your looking for something new
Eh, not much has sounded "new" in like twenty years. Dont get me wrong there is still a lot of good music out there if you dont mind digging. Word of mouth, and NPR is were I learn of a lot of cool new stuff.A lot of stuff sounds new. There are even new genres that have come about in that time span. WTF are you talking about?
Any recommendations? I would really like to find some good new, or just obscure music, that I've never heard before.

I just miss the days where I was completely blown away when my friend gave me a Ween cd and was like "bet you've never heard these guys, check em' out."
Frank Ocean's album was one of my favorites this year. Alabama Shakes too.I've heard Alabama Shakes, they are pretty good. They are on that local "rock" station I mentioned in the OP.

@BernardShakey said:Maybe, I think "a lot" is generous though. What new genres in particular are you talking about? All i'm saying is everytime i'm introduced to something so "new" it doesnt sound completely new or groundbreaking to me, even if I enjoy it it usually sounds familiar to something else.Eh, not much has sounded "new" in like twenty years. They are from the UK, and have been putting albums out since 2003. Their sound ranges from 60's pschy/folk/blues/rock with a smattering of other genres thrown in. Very good band.
Their album Free The Bees is probably the best place to start.

@BernardShakey said:True, maybe it's just because im not at all an electronica guy, but i've lumped all of those with genres like trance and techno.@me_no_are_no_nice_guy said:Off the top of my head... ...and oh yeah, real people in real life, but most of them don't really share my tastes.
Also, Spotify is a godsend, since whenever you hear of anything, you can just pull it up and check it out immediately.

For something relatively new and very unique, from a band that's been around forever, try the "Exotic Creatures Of The Deep" album by Sparks, along with their "Lil Beethoven" album. You might not like it, but then again, it just might drop your jaw and blow your mind like it did for me.
My new "favorite band of all time" is the Butthole Surfers. New to me, of course... they're another band that's been around quite a while. Try diving into their 80s stuff, like the "Psychic, Powerless" album. Truly bizarre, unapologetically hard psychedelia with plenty of black humor. It's all up on Spotify.
4chan /mu/ section
Pitchfork (even though I really don't like them, they're just like Rolling Stone, they only review certain artists and ignore others. Try and look up Phish on Pitchfork)
Allmusic (probably the best music review site period)
^hah!Pedantic?
What's another word for the term that describes the word "redundancy"?
Hype Machine seems to be a good current blog.
Sirius XM-Uradio great indie rock channel
Promotional services for radio (I'm a DJ...all digital downloads these days. )

Jam on...Really? I've honestly never heard one single band on that channel that I hadn't heard before. Here's a graph I made of every single play over a 30 day period, just not a lot of variety or new bands.

CHILL WAVEBasically, it's is what I thought it would be and it's awesome
