Have I gone the longest w/o seeing Phish than you?

ypehmish Permalink
ypehmish Hartford 10

This will FINALLY change this run (2 nights) thankfully. Up until this past Wednesday, it was another Phish-less year for me. There are a multitude of reasons for my absence at shows which I don't want to to get into, but I am incredibly thrilled to be seeing them again.

Edit- I realize my thread title is a bit off, but you understand, ha.

But interesting to read others past gaps in shows. My longest (for obvious reasons) 8-15-04 to 8-14-09, ha almost 5 years exactly.

I had kind of said bye to Phish when they broke up yet again in 04. I thought they weren't half the band they used to be in those 03-04 years. I did get lucky and just happened to stroll down to Starlake in 03 where they kind of blew my mind. That was by far the best show I had seen since the Creek show in 99. But I was tired and my time on the road following them wasn't getting better. Since 1999 the music started to not be as good for me. Anyhow my friend who lives in China now who I used to do the majority of my shows with came home for that Holiday run in 2010 and he was in the city and so was I. I was hanging with family and he called me up on the 29th and asked me if I wanted to go and I said sure. Had a nice time and I continue to see Phish, in moderation of course. I am only going to do 1 of these shows, possibly two. I do have tickets for the 30th and the 31st but I might just say 1 is enough. Truthfully it's all I need anymore. Hopefully I hit on a good night.

Edit// He didn't come home for the run, we just both happened to be in NYC while Phish was playing.

He called me on the 29th and we went on the 30th.

Right now I only live like a half an hour from cuse, might actually drag myself out to see Trey. We'll see.

But I did do a lot of shows in the Summer of 11 which really led to my now moderate approach. Besides Superball, I really couldn't care if i hit any of the shows I did, they were all very average and I hit a lot of shows in 11.

Bethel actually was pretty good.

September 25, 2000

Sandstone Amphitheatre, Bonner Springs, KS

Set 1: Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey, Down with Disease[1] > The Lizards, Tweezer, Back on the Train, Water in the Sky, Bug, Julius

Set 2: Gotta Jibboo > Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove, Axilla > Harry Hood > Funky Bitch

Encore: Boogie On Reggae Woman > Driver > Tweezer Reprise

[1] Unfinished.

Notes: Everybody’s Got Something To Hide was played for the first time since October 31, 1994 (434 shows). Disease was unfinished.

August 14, 2009

The Comcast Theatre, Hartford, CT

Set 1: Punch You In the Eye, AC/DC Bag > NICU, Colonel Forbin's Ascent > Fly Famous Mockingbird, Birds of a Feather, Lawn Boy, Stash, I Didn't Know, Middle of the Road, Character Zero

Set 2: Down with Disease[1] > Wilson > Slave to the Traffic Light, Piper[2] > Water in the Sky, Ghost -> Psycho Killer -> Catapult -> Icculus[3] > You Enjoy Myself

Encore: While My Guitar Gently Weeps

[1] Reba jam; unfinished.
[2] Spill the Wine tease from Page.
[3] Narration centered on the fact that "you crazy kids" just don't read anymore.

Notes: This show featured the first versions of Forbin’s and Mockingbird since September 30, 2000 (96 shows), which were performed without narration. During I Didn’t Know, Trey introduced Fish as “Recent Julliard Master’s Vacuum Program graduate, the one and only, Jon Moses Quagmire DeWitt Hampton.” DWD contained a Reba jam and was unfinished. Piper included a Spill the Wine tease from Page. This show featured the first Psycho Killer since December 7, 1997 (282 shows). Psycho Killer was unfinished and disintegrated into a self-described, electronic “Pong” jam. During the post-Psycho Killer “Pong” jam, Trey initiated a dance contest saying that whoever could best dance to that music would “win something.”  After Catapult (while continuing the “Pong” jam), Trey asked, “Does everybody else love this song as much as I do?” and said that he was “waiting for the day when they play stuff like this on the radio.”  Icculus was last performed on July 18, 1999 (193 shows). The Icculus narration centered on the fact that “you crazy kids” just don’t read anymore.  The “Pong” jam reappeared during the YEM jam. The soundcheck included a jam with lyrics that were made up on the fly with Trey on bass (so that Mike could check on bass sounds from the audience) and Fish on drums. Trey briefly quoted Spill the Wine and The Pendulum during the soundcheck jam.
