Tame Impala

Jerrytheband Has anyone heard these guys. My brother showed them to me and they're pretty good and they can jam.

I love their studio stuff. However, when I saw them at Outside Lands they were pretty lackluster. It sounded really flat, and uninspired.

Love their studio albums, their second one is really growing on me. I agree with @bobbob though, I saw them in Boston last month and was not very impressed.

Innerspeaker is still an incredible album

mmetch Their albums are amazing. I've never seen them live but I've seen some video and it seems too slowed down. It hasn't made me want to go see them. I heard an interview with them where one of the dudes said that they really like the comfort and safety of the studio, where they can get it perfect. I think they are still getting their live performance feet wet.

geogaddi They're alright IMO. I feel there are way better more original bands that have been doing similar things for a long time. For some reason they're new album is blowin' up like crazy, and i've heard a bunch of phish heads loving it. I like the way the drums are recorded on the new one.

they're way better than this band 'zebrahead' thats on tv right now. don't look it up

harroldHOOD I actually have a few bootlegs of theirs and thought they sounded cool live but then again I've definitely seen shows that felt lackluster only to go home and end up listening to the recording over and over again.

Innerspeaker is amazing - been loving the new album as well. If you like Tame Impala you should check out Quilt & Real Estate

LedZeppelin This band is so sick.

Lonerism is my fav album of 2012 and Innerspeaker was fantastic.

Haven't seen 'em live yet (tix sold out before I could buy this past Sept.), but will definitely be seeing them in the spring.

Alot of these indie bands kind of rely on the studio to achieve certain sounds that can't be recreated live and probably play more "stripped down" versions of their tracks on stage, which is why some folks here may not be all that impressed with their shows.

However, the tracks are all really cool. The vocals are sweet (very John Lennon esqe), the basslines are neat, the guitar melodies work really well with the percussion and are interesting. The written tracks themselves are impressive enough to undermine a live performance that doesn't live up to its studio counterpart.

me_no_are_no_nice_guy I listened to a lot of this band yesterday. I liked most of what I heard. Is it just me or does the singer sound VERY much like John Lennon?

That was my first impression after Hearing "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards." I liked their older stuff, very vintage sounding, but also not just thinly veiled rip-offs. I didn't remember the Lennon vocals before, but listening to Innerspeaker and it is fairly obvious.

TwiceBitten We need Animal Collective rip-offs just about as bad as we need Phish rip-offs. Stick to OG material folks

edit: this makes me seem like I'm endorsing Animal Collective, a band a also dislike.

Writing these guys off as an Animal Collective rip-off is incredibly short sighted. If you dis-like AC, and these guys, what the f*** do you care?

Have you ever listened to AC? Their sound is much more reliant on vocal harmony and digitally created sounds. There's almost no vocal harmony in TI, and they almost use no digitally created sounds. The songwriting is completely different; neither would attempt to recreate the other's chord progressions.
