NYPD maintains a strong undercover and aggresive team of about 15 that culturally profile Phans and accost them with "stop and frisk" trips into your pockets and packs.
Best strategy to avoid them is to take mass transit to Penn Station and walk upstairs ( or ride the escalators and elevators) to MSG.
These cops are aggressive and IMHO cruel sociopaths. They live lives of deceit and immorality to oppress and persecute free thinking US citizens that are exersizing their Natural Rights to consume what they want. If you must walk among them, stash very well. Sales of any thing is very risky. They busted a phan trying to sell 2 Tix for face, because he was on MSG property. Another was selling pins. But some that we're busted Friday night were just getting out of their parked car, frisked and arrested. Some were just hanging and chatting, stopped, frisked (into your pockets) and busted. If you are local you get out after 2-3 hours with a ticket. Non locals are held overnight to see a judge and post bail/bind or typically discharged with time served.
Loving you

Face value or not, the law in New York is that tickets can't be sold within 1,500 ft of the venue.
FYI you can refuse a stop and frisk. you maybe arrested but you can refuse.
true, but then they search you before the jail, if you refuse, your admitted with whatever you posession of. Once admitted, you are stripped searched, when they find the goods, you're then charged with a felony for bringing illegal substances into the jail. If you refuse at any time, you are screwed.
Certainly not meant to be FUD, hence the positive info about a sure and safe way into the venue, i know better than to take your comment personally, but I feel insulted. I was arrested outside on Friday night, not released until 8 PM Saturday. Everything stated is from personal experience. FUD by definition is dis-information. What about my post are you challenging as incorrect?
Stay safe, see y'all tonight!!
Now that I did miss Friday due to a bust, I am looking for a ticket to either tonight or tomorrow.
Who's got my Miracle?

I smoke pot in public. Anywhere it's legal to smoke tobacco at least. NYC has the most busts for cannabis than any other city, and it's my act of Civil Disobediance to do so. I am pretty good at picking out NYPD, but Friday the captain got me. I was detained as long as I was because the last time they got me was 2005, and I blew it off. I will contest the fines imposed this time, as a protest. I also told every cop I talked to through the process, about http://leap.org , a group of cops I feel can bring about the end of the Drug War
While I might have "set myself up" by smoking in public ( on 33rd street over a half block to 6th Ave ) the other arrests I described were as described to me by phellow Phans inside jail. It was even Phun at times, the whole cell block whistling tunes together, minor drum jam, good jokes and stories. They must have got about a hundred of us Friday night. One cop told me they got almost 300 last year, and they want to beat that this one.
I said they were doing nothing more than shooting Phish heads in a barrel.

I'm not bitching phriends, and at 57 y.o.a. I have been around the block. These cops are in an "operation" targeting the show, if I hadn't been busted I wouldn't know all the stories of phans experiencing plain clothes cops walking up to them and putting hands into their pockets. I felt an obligation to our community to share, especially for those with non NY metro addresses.
.Ex-PODW many times over, so there is no "outing" here, but the reason is the same as the political strategy that has now gained marriage rights for Gays. There is no freedom in the closet. We gain power as we demonstrate the lies of thier propaganda. I am a fairly successful hippie with more than a Touch of Grey. I also prefer cannabis to both tobacco and alcohol.

This must be a new law. I've bought Rangers tickets IN THE BUILDING. Gave that shit up since Stubhub has come along though.
I don't see any harm in selling tickets for face value, but if that is what it takes to stop scalping (or reduce it)...I'm down. I can see how it would be harder for the NYPD to keep an eye on actual scalping vs. face value sales. Easy to see a sale go down...hard to tell how much $$ changed hands after the fact.
I can totally see busts for selling merch near the venue since NYC licenses all vendors in the city.
In regards to the smoke...hopefully that BS will all be over soon. I feel 1000% more comfortable in Colorado now. So nice to not have to worry at all.

How difficult is it to smoke inside the venue? (balcony)
And they won't just randomly search people unless you give them a reason to, they have more important things to worry about.
Cops seem to be part of the "lot" scene in every urban venue.

That is correct!

You get to apologize to actual prisoners of war for comparing your plight to theirs.
Nypd wont do shit to you if you walk right into the venue and light up once you walk in. Chillin outside the venue just asks for trouble if you have drugs, and.attracts attention to yourself. Most people who are arrested at these shows are doing really stupid shit moat lilely. Security was a joke for me last 3 nights and I blazed non stop during the shows
wow we smoked multiple J's outside msg last year. wrong place wrong time kind of thing i guess. You straight-up got lucky.

"I'd like to solve the acronym Pat!"Second! OP, this is the biggest whiny BS thread I've read in a long time. I'm all for legalazation too but it's still against the law. If you were seriously lighting up right outside MSG as a form of protest, then what are you whining about? It seems like you were successful. You protested, they noticed and you got locked up. I was at 28 and 29 and had no trouble entering or exiting the building.

These are the same cops that ran into the Trade Centers. Show some respect.
I promise you if someone you loved were involved in that day you would feel different about the police and everything their jobs entail. Not that there aren't bad cops or prick cops, there are, but I though we've progressed enough to understand they can be called to run into hell any moment of any day. They really don't have the time to figure out how Phish fans might be different or less violent than the gang related dealers they see everyday.
It takes so little effort to be discrete.
The GF and I where against the gate at GA east last night when she dropped a joint over the railing. She asked the security guard to pick it up for her, which he did without hesitation. She then proceeded to smoke it right in front of him.
...however, if we want to talk about the insane nature of the contentious 'stop and frisk' policy in NYC, then we might get into a debate about whether or not that is cops 'doing their duty', even if they are being told from above that it is indeed their duty to do. But that is for another thread and another day, or for no thread at all.
Be safe and be smart, folks!!! You're going to the best last party of 2012 tonight!
You guys are so silly.an MSG security guard is completely different from a NYPD officer. MSG doesn't appear to care. they want us to be happy and get stoned and spend exorbitant amounts of money on their food!
