Guys, when raging, especially in a place like NYC, plan ahead, and always try to have at least one in your group that acts like a Designated Driver.
A young lady, that was separated from her friends early Jan 1 morning, ended up lying down on the tracks at Penn Station, inexplicably. She was struck and killed by a No. 2 train.

Very sad, but also very avoidable. Play smart and safe everyone.

I heard yesterday from a younger friend that knew her. But it has been on PT as well, I also just saw a thread on /r/Phish on Reddit that seems to actually be started by one of the friends she was partying with. Tragic.

So.. she did it on purpose or did she think the rails were a comfy spot to curl up for the night? From the various threads on it, including her friends --- Nobody knows why -- or what thoughts were in her head that could have possibly lead her to do this. She was split up from her friends, and in one way or another had obviously lost her hold on reality that morning.

ive been pretty far out there, but i dont think ive ever let myself go far enough into not being able to tell that train tracks are not to lay down on. this is a tragedy and my heart goes out to the loved ones affected by this but you need to know how to party inside the limits of death. That is why, as unpleasant as it is...sharing these stories is a reminder to be careful....that the standard "party favors" on the scene should not be taken lightly, or alone.
terrible
It's a total tragedy, but it is avoidable, you have to know your limits and don't ever lose anyone in your crew. Ever. Never. EVER.
Another biscovictim- very sad, sorry to her friends and family.
I was on the 2 down in the financial district trying to get to 14th and it took almost an hour. We were told the train was stopping about 3 stops from 14th and some guy asked the conductor if we could at least get to 14th.
I feel terrible for her and everyone in that station during that time.
During the summer '84 tour, one of the rainbow buses went into a ditch killing a deadhead (Paul) that had asked my crew for a ride after the starlight theatre show. I had no idea one of my friends had told him there was no room in my truck and to check the tour buses. I found out on the way to the Iowa show. They dedicated He's Gone to him second set cedar rapids. Listen to the archive org recording and you can hear Phil's dedication.
This was just one of many stories I heard throughout the '80s.
It's a terrible tragedy that can be prevented in the future if we make sure all our friends make it home safe.
My heart sincerely goes out to her friends and family.
Another reminder to always try to be present, and take care of ourselves and each other.
Godspeed, phriend.
