I'm wondering if anyone has candidates for the worst single set of songs Phish ever put together in a show?
I don't mean the worst playing. I mean the worst selection of songs. Any stinker set choices?

If you can't think of a bad song selection, make one up yourselves.
This one was unpopular, especially Set 1. I happen to like the maligned selections:
Sample, Crowd control, # line-> caspian, Julius, nothing-> jam w/ trey on mini keyboard-> bug, farmhouse
Enc
Shine a light-> loving cup
My "phish is mocking me set" would be something like...the look on my friend's face during the Lawn Boy set closer was priceless. He has forever bitched about that song and to get it as the third set closer on NYE while he was tripping was too much for me to not find funny

Oh yeah, squeeze pig tail in my set list up there.lol, I like that song a lot, and I love probably have the songs you mentioned above
edit: Prince Caspian blows
I can't be the only one who likes Nothing! And come on, Caspians had some pretty great jams in its time!
edit: Prince Caspian blowsGive the Caspian from 9/1/12 a listen; it definitely changed my mind about this song.
I can't be the only one who likes Nothing! You are definitely not. I love that song.
The worst set of all time would be: Split Open and Melt, Guyute> Purple Rain> Guyute, Oh Kee Pah Ceremony, Poor Heart, Time Turns Elastic, Lawn Boy, Heavy Things
I can't be the only one who likes Nothing! And come on, Caspians had some pretty great jams in its time!Have you heard the deer creek '04 version? It was definitely a "hey, what's this" moment.

i screamed f***erpants when it started on the 29th just as that waves was getting sexy
Show of life sorry @slothberries i know you think this is a beautiful songi don't particularly mind this song. i don't go to shows clamoring for it, by any means, but i thought it fit the creek show this summer alright. i also caught the debut at toyota park. it's a solid phish ballad, which is not their strongest field.![]()
2nd set takes it 2000-06-25this one is a bit rough but i love mule and have always thought slave was the perfect set closer. fefy, jiboo, and wtu on the other hand... not my favorites
@forbin1 said:some good points ...you're right ..it's not that bad and I'm not hating on it because it's the cool thing to do...i just can't get into it..I'd rather get a loving cup...Show of life sorry @slothberries i know you think this is a beautiful songi don't particularly mind this song. i don't go to shows clamoring for it, by any means, but i thought it fit the creek show this summer alright. i also caught the debut at toyota park. it's a solid phish ballad, which is not their strongest field.![]()

The worst set of all time would be: Split Open and Melt, Guyute> Purple Rain> Guyute, Oh Kee Pah Ceremony, Poor Heart, Time Turns Elastic, Lawn Boy, Heavy ThingsHowever in reverse, it could be amazing
Backwards Down the Number Line, If I Could, Julius, Strange Design, Ocelot, Prince Caspian
ENC: Show of Life
How has this thread gotten this far without mention of this second set? I thought it was generally considered one of the worst of all time, particularly after a raging first set
Sparkle is a fun 3 minutes -- i can not possibly ruin a set.
Same with A ballad like Lawn Boy. Give me 2+ Ballads in a set and now you are wasting time, or just a one ballad encore is always disappointing. But again, one 3-5 min song cannot hurt a set, unless you let it, because you want to bitch.
And a ton of us love Lawn Boy and Page's swagger during it or Sparkle -- it was a song that made me grin ear-to-ear when I was 15, and I will never forget that.
I don't get hating on fun, upbeat 3-4 minute songs.
I understand TTE -- that is 17min wasted.
Or Caspian 7min(ok)-15min(ughh) that is very rarely interesting jamming.

Second Set Jones Beach July 4th this year. Unless you were in the mood to sleep.
2009-08-15This was exactly what I was thinking. I don't mind that set so much anymore, but at the time I wasn't a huge phan yet and I thought it was pretty good reason not to head back to another Phish show. There was no flow to surrender to; the energy just kept crapping out like an old man with whiskeydick.
This one was unpopular, especially Set 1. I happen to like the maligned selections:to this day it is still in my top 5 worst shows I ever attended

6/6/09 sucked so bad. After a fun 3 shows of 5/31, 6/4, and 6/5, that show just left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

It was still the worst live set, FOR MY TASTES, I have ever seen. Horse-> Silent, Shine a Light, Show of Life, and Sleeping Monkey weer 5 out of 7 songs at the end.
Not bad musically -- but 2nd set 4th of July, opening with Tweezer, is supposed rage not Sway to ballads 40 mins. of the last hour.

Ah, I shouldn't say that...I love Nothing and really enjoyed seeing all of the first set live (except Let Me Lie and Caspian...even in my juvenile days of phandom I knew these songs sucked), and that second set is actually a really strong set...even if it's really a solid first set in disguise.
This one was unpopular, especially Set 1. I happen to like the maligned selections:This show came to mind immediately. It sucks. Luckily I had Hartford tickets for Later that summer. If I didnt I don't think I would have come back to Phish. Especially after this performance.

2004-08-09because we all wanted to pretend that set never happened.

Very strong version of Hood anchors a decent 2nd set. First set is where I gather what others spill - unpopular favorites galore. If only they had gone deeper with that Caspian closer! There are plenty of shows with more impressive setlists that do a a lot less for me, e.g. the recent 12/29/12.

Ballad hate = proof that humanoid robots follow The Phish From Vermont on the interwebs.
