Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh, NY

Set 1: Skin It Back[1] > Possum[2], Tube, Happiness Is a Warm Gun, Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove, Halley's Comet > Axilla > Ya Mar, Joy, Jesus Just Left Chicago > Backwards Down the Number Line > Golgi Apparatus

Set 2: Chalk Dust Torture[2], Sand[3] -> Golden Age, Wolfman's Brother -> Walk Away, Bug > Fluffhead[4] > The Wedge > Run Like an Antelope

Encore: Character Zero

[1] Spanish Moon tease.
[2] Skin It Back tease.
[3] Izabella tease.
[4] Dave's Energy Guide tease.

Notes: This was the first of two Pay Per view performances. Skin It Back was played for the first time since July 29,1988 (1,417 shows). Spanish Moon was teased before and during Skin It Back. Happiness is a Warm Gun was played for the first time since October 31, 1994 (658 shows). Possum and Chalk Dust Torture contained Skin It Back teases. Sand contained an Izabella tease. Before Bug, Trey said the band doesn't speak in words back stage anymore and they decided they only used hand signals. Trey slapped his wrist as if he was being bitten by a bug to indicate Bug. Fluffhead contained a Dave's Energy Guide tease.

Also - the whole Trey giving a tour of his rig video that's floating around SOP was filmed right before this show....the best way to get Trey into a show is to have him geek out on his equipment prior. You can hear he is on a mission to kill it this show.

this show is insanely good. i may have to say top 5 instead of top 3, but it is right up there. dicks 1 and 3 take it for sure, but it is right in the mix with dicks 2, bgca 3, 12/30, etc.

Underrated doesn't just have to mean "good show everyone thinks isn't that great". It can mean "classic show everyone thinks is just good", as well. And I think St. Louis falls under that category. YMMV, of course.

What I love about this summer tour is almost every show can fall into this Category that isn't Dicks N1, N3, BGCA3 , Woosta 1 and Spac 3. Every other show(minus maybe 2), has amazing moments and some great jamming. It's really one of those "take your pick" of what type of jamming you want to hear.

So really what it comes down to is that you can pick the show you loved the most, and you can probably write a page on why it is an underrated gem. I don't think Phish has had a tour this consistent since fall 97. I'm not saying the jamming is on par with 97, but the overall quality of shows has never been this consistent. It's really a great feeling going into Summer 13 with a rumored festival, rumored Fall tour, and rumored winter tour.

the MOST underrated, not sure (elements of the show deserve more discussion than what it got imo).

If AC1 hasn't been mentioned because people think it isn't any good, then IMO it should at least be in the discussion of seriously underrated 2012 shows.

that might be the least impressive show i have seen in 3.0. the 1st set had zero flow. the golden-> ghost was solid. as for the tweezer, i appreciated them departing from the typical "3.0 tweezer formula," but i thought it was pretty much a mess. walk away was hot. the rest of the set was pretty plain jane. then there's the cup> tweeprise enc...

I agree with you...it's always fun to go to Blossom (that lot is BANANAS) but the only highlight for me was the golden-> ghost which in many way could of been epic if they didn't drop in to that spacey dissolve so common in Leg 2. I hear you. Show wasn't top notch but I enjoyed the tweezer (sometimes a crazy mess is classic smile-on-your-face phish) same with the antelope. Granted it wasn't the greatest show but I do think elements of it are underrated as are shows at the venue in general imo. I feel most shows get talked about a decent amount with tins of love all over the board but blossom threads seem far and few between, hence me throwing it out there.

It was more of a post to start some discussion.

Set 2: Down with Disease -> Blister in the Sun[1] > Down with Disease[2] > Boogie On Reggae Woman > Golden Age -> Also Sprach Zarathustra > Backwards Down the Number Line[3] > Prince Caspian[2] -> Scent of a Mule -> Blister in the Sun[1] -> Scent of a Mule > Mike's Song[3] > Contact > Weekapaug Groove[3]

Encore: Sabotage

[1] First verse only.
[2] Unfinished.
[3] Blister in the Sun teases from Trey.

Notes: This show was broadcast live on SiriusXM Radio's Jam_ON station. Blister in the Sun was played for the first time since July 9, 1998 (390 shows). Both appearances of Blister in the Sun consisted of the first verse only. Down with Disease and Caspian were both unfinished. BDTNL, Mike's Song and Weekapaug all contained Blister in the Sun teases from Trey. Sabotage was dedicated to MCA, who had passed away earlier in the year.

Seriously. SPAC raged this year. Sunday was the best of all three nights, but look at that second set. When the crowd NEEDS a # Line just to chill out a bit you know something special was going. It's like the band knew there was something in the water. Blister in the sun teases all over the place. A rocking 2nd set scent of a mule. Beautiful contact taboot. And the earth shook when they busted out the sloppiest version of sabotage ever. But it didn't matter. Listen to this show.

ivy_light My #1 answer is Long Beach by a nautical mile easy. Yowzers! I mean, even though I think the Rock & Roll -> Ghost pairing seems pretty common (saw a terrific one in Charlotte in 2011), that jam is just mad, mad good. Not the tightest but daring (finally).

Think of it this way: The Dick's Light and the MSG Carini might not have happened had the LB R&R -> Ghost not come before them. It laid the groundwork for the uptick in improvisation we got in leg II.

#2 is a tie between SPAC N1 & N2 -

N1 because...

A) Two words: Psycho Tube; and,
B) I'm a sucker for an incredible Sand, which gets delivered in the second set.

N2 because...

A) despite the cheesiness factor, teases are fun, especially when funkified; and,
B) I don't care how mangled it is, a Sabotage encore is just good, special stuff.

Exactly. I really got a sense of them just letting loose and going where the music took them during that jam. It really felt different than anything I had heard from 3.0 up to that point. They had jammed before, for sure, but this was so far out there. They were so patient and let the music just flow. I had a strong sense that this was the band turning a corner in their new era.
