Wow Phish DryGoods has some piss poor customer service...

Chilly Permalink
Chilly So to make a long story short, on 12/12/12 I placed an order on dry goods for a bunch of stuff. A few things were gonna be Christmas gifts but mostly I just wanted the Glow In the Dark Nate Duval LE print, which I needed to spend $50 to get.

So I ordered a bunch of random things on sale, including the Starlake DVD, the 1998 Pollock Shirt, a calendar, etc. etc.

Well after almost a month of still not having any of my items I decided to send them an email asking what the deal was. Just a side note, according to my account, the order was still being processed.

This was the response:

Thank you for contacting Phish Dry Goods,

Unfortunately, this order was canceled on 12/12/12. I do apologize for the confusion and any inconvenience that this may have caused. At this point the items are no longer available for us to do a duplicate order. Once again I do apologize for the delay and any inconvenience that this may have caused.

If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

lindsey

That was it, no help to be offered or anything, NOT to mention they didn't think it was necessary to email me about it, they just figured I would forget about it and they would keep my $60. HERE IS THE THING, not only was the order mysteriously canceled, BUT I WAS CHARGED THE FULL PRICE of the order. They didn't even mention a refund, or why my order was cancelled, or anything like that.

Now obviously the LE print is gone from the face of the earth, and they don't have any more of the Pollock 1998 t-shirts to purchase, as well as the 2013 Phish calendar.

But hey I already paid for them.

Sorry to bitch here, but since we all probably have/do buy things from this store, I figured I would give the heads up on how piss poor their customer service is.

TheArgus Dry goods sucks

Had a similar problem. ordered a couple DVDs and shirts on 12/12/12, over $50, placed the order at 12:03. Was charged regular shipping rate rather than the promotional rate and the free poster was not listed on my receipt. I emailed them immediately concerning both issues. 3 days later after I hadn't had any response, I sent another email. They replied on the 22nd, 10 DAYS LATER

12/22/12

red_red_worms The only problem i have with them is the shipping. but my friend had almost the same exact experience. He ordered a bunch of stuff for his friends, and then a hoodie for himself. Weeks later, they tell him that the other stuff was shipped and that they are all out of that hoodie! Weeks later!

PhishDicks I bought that 98 star lake pack with the DVD, shirt, poster, cd, etc'. I ordered it on 11/27/12. On 12/23/12 a letter came in the mail including only an old news letter from 1998. I tried to call customer service but they were gone for the holidays. Finally on 12/27/12 the whole package came a month late. They must of had a lot of Christmas orders.

3rd'ed!!

I still wear the t-shirt i got from msg in '98, a summer tour '00 t, and just recently had to retire a shirt a buddy got me at woostah in '97 (argh, my all time favorite phish shirt). the only shirt i've purchased since '09 was a summer tour shirt at the '11 cincy show. it's already going to shit. i don't even like the shirt that much, so it's not been getting the action the old ones got.

basically, if its not something that i can listen to, i'm done with phish merch.

Agreed, I picked up the long sleeve navy Summer Tour T at Bethel and it's practically unwearable now, yet I have shirts from the early to mid 90's that are still holding up to this day.

In terms of ordering stuff off drygoods, I have never had an issue. I've heard PLENTY of horror stories of people who have ordered posters that come in practically destroyed. They should take a cue from the LivePhish customer service department, those guys are great.

True, my Albany 09 orange turkey shirt is holding up really well, I don't think it's organic though. It's a really soft cotton though, like what they use to make "new retro" t-shirts.

it worked out in my favor once
i ordered the joy vinyl
they sent me trey at the boardwalk hall on vinyl
(wow only ordered one item and they f***ed it up)
i called them immediately and told them what had happened and they said they would ship a copy of joy to me immediately and they gave me a code to ship back the trey vinyl, but they told me i could wait to ship back the trey vinyl until the joy came.
joy vinyl came
never got a second charge on my account
got both joy and trey at boardwalk hall for the price of the joy vinyl

HARRYHOOD213 Permalink
HARRYHOOD213 Weird, they have been nothing but great to me with their Customer Service- only company I have seen that doesn't ask for pictures OR the merchandise back, but will promptly send out replacements. I ordered the Tab at the Tab autographed CD last year and one of the autos was smudged. Sent them a note and I got a new one a week later. Ordered a few magnets that had some type of sticky crap on them and then they sent me two new ones a week later.

They should be consistent with their customer service, sounds like my two "bad" experiences were nothing like yours.

Even my 12/12/12 stuff got shipped VERY FAST.

Sorry to hear about your trouble, but I would reply and/or call to speak to a supervisor. Don't know if its true or not, but I heard they still have those Duvall's there and DID NOT give out all of them.

Drgordy Permalink
Drgordy I've refused to order anything from them since the last time I bought a shirt from them for my wife about two years ago. There shipping prices are outrageous, they have little inventory, they mess up orders, and they are slow as hell. They sent me a shirt in the wrong size, then they tried to charge me for return shipping and to ship the correct size. It took about two months to straighten it out. Not too mention the shipping was more than the shirt.

oh yeah, I ordered a bunch on 12/12, had my order cancelled 14 days later, saying they were out of stock - called and the dude was super nice, made me another order, gave me free UPS shipping and deals on all the gear, but then I had to wait forever for it to arrive - when it did, I got TWO of everything (including limited print,) only charged for one of everything - meme that!

andrewrose Sounds like they had some issues with the 12/12 promotion. I put an order in that morning for over $50 worth of stuff. I received a shipping confirmation 10 days on 12/22 but I've yet to receive it. I'm in Montreal though so I never expect it to get here quickly. Not like the old days when the stuff just shipped from Vermont..

RoverPhish Permalink
i suppose all of this was a risk Phish ran when they decided to "out"source selling their merchandise through a separate party. In multiple interviews (and the Phish bio), Trey talks about how he was tired of the whole "Phish, Inc." feel of things in 2000, 2.0. At the time, I was surprised the band was as involved with this stuff as they were. Could they have picked a different/better merchandising company? Probably. Should we involve the band in our complaints? No, but maybe send a high-level note to their management.

But, honestly, I've come to realize that the shipping is usually less than optimal, so if I truly want something from Dry Goods, I'll order it myself and just realize that it will come when it comes.
