this doesn't answer the question but i made a bracket a while back for best show of 2012 summer tour. I didnt put any rhyme or reason behind the seating. i just made it random. that was a complaint. i may make another one and include the NYE run and figure out some sort of seating.here is the thread

It's hard not to pick 8/31/12. Just listened back again for the first time since fall. Such an amazing show.

I go with the Crowd and say 8/31/12. It is the only show (that I can think of) that has great jams not just songs in the first set as well as the second.If the question was best second set of 2012 the list would be a bit longer and IMO there is not a clear winner.

@Jayem's best second set question is a lot more interesting. I still think 8/31 is a strong contender, along with 8/28, 8/19, and 6/23. But I would probably stump for 9/2, the closest thing 3.0 has to 12/6/97 II.

I would have to go with 9/2 II as well for best second set. That set has such great flow, song selection, and jamming.

best second set imo is 9/2/12. sand> ghost> piper=wow. Also, the lizards and hood were awesome in that set. Honestly I can only rank based on which shows I would have rather been at and that winner def goes to 8/31. so i agree 8/31 was the best of 2012. 9/2 in second place 12/30 in 3rd place.

8/31/12 (FYF show)...in a year that saw some of Phish's best work since coming back in 2009, this one is far and away the best show of the year. It's not that close.

8/31/12 also for the life of me i can't understand all of the love for 8/19/12.
i've tried to love it, but it just comes across as standard 3.0 phish to me
