"trey has really good tone" and "wow! everyone around me is so excited to be here"
What the hell have I been listening to my whole life? (never heard "the phish" before this)
Possum:
"What a stupid song. Look at all these goofs jumping up and down."
Start laughing!
"Actually this is kind of infectious..."
Start jumping up and down.
"Wow this song kills. Damn this is great!"

That's usually when they tell me to f*** off forever.Felt the love during the Golgi chorus when I looked around the lawn and saw every single person with their right hands in the air - "I saw you!!!"f*** you for getting an Alumni opener your first show.
Fell in love forever during the 2001 > Billie Jean Jam straight-up dance party with 1000s of new friends...

I honestly can't remember. I was just happy that they were telling stories between the songs, kept my young mind occupied. I was probably wondering when they were going to sing that song about tires making contact with the road. But those assholes decided not to play it that night, geigh!!Dude not only was your first show an epic gamhengde narration it was on my 7th birthday! I had a watergun/waterballoon birthday party that day. If Id only knew...

My first set was 78 minutes of absolute bliss. The vibe going into the show was amazing. I was tripping my balls off on some amazing shrooms and was so excited about finally seeing this band that i've been listening to consistently for the past 10 months. Sitting on the lawn passing around a j with my friends while pulling up grass and letting it fall through my fingers (which felt amazing) is a memory that will stay with me forever. This is my very lengthy review of my 1st show in case you're interested in all the details.

Ironically, my first show had that song about the tires on your car that make contact with the road ;P

Mt
"This song is going on forever!"
...That Tweezer wasn't really that long. In time, I'd come to pine for much, much longer Tweezers... I got one of the best ones ever on 2/28/03.
However, this impression may have been reinforced by swapping banjo licks with Mike Gordon in the "lot" (grounds?) before I ever even saw the band play.
"I can't believe they're actually playing this! These guys are hilarious!" (I had seen the previous night's setlist.)
Mainly I was thinking they all looked like muppets, and that the performance was way more intense than I imagined (based on the albums that I had heard, I was not familiar yet with their live music). As it turns out, it wasn't just the dose I had taken, they really DID look like muppets.
"wow they are actually DOING IT!!!"
listened a bunch before seeing them. suddenly it all made sense seeing them play for the first time

At the moment, I was truly blown away! What is this? Who are these freaks? Who is this band? And what is this music they are playing? It was hot as hell, and packed to the rafters, literally. Donation at the door.....coffee can. During set break, they pumped dance music and it was a big ol dance party. Boxes of Mac and Cheese. It was about 2 am when we ditched, during Antelope reprise? But it was Col Forbin/Moking bird that hooked me. Can,t explain it, can,t due it justice...but the place was psychedelic and everyone was tuned in. I was truly. Lucky to be in the right place at the right time. And that made all the difference.

My first thought, somewhere within the first 5 minutes of the opener (PYITE) was "This is what I've been looking for from music my entire life."
At my 2nd & 3rd shows, I could hardly believe what I was experiencing.
first show was coventry. my first thought was probably "damn there's a lotta mud"
Anyway... I was up on that crappy lawn. I only knew a couple songs (poor heart, disease). My friends I went with dispersed and I ended up hanging with a friend I didn't know that well at the time, but am now tight with. It was early/first season of hanging with the Herb. I don't think I told my parents where I was or what I was doing. So, there was a lot of environmental stuff going on. But, I do have a memory of the enveloping of the sound and lights (that happens still at, like, every show and I love it). The sensory experience of the lights and fog machine and the music growing, being isolated at a distant point and, like, growing toward me, enveloping me. The out of this world feeling. Does that make sense. it's awesome.
What the hell is this?I was at this show.

3rd night of a three night run for me. Providence, Boston, and Amherst. We heckeled WSP in Boston the night before because......"we want Phish"....and we were drunk.
CoreStates Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA
Set 1: Poor Heart > Caravan > Cavern > Taste, Guelah Papyrus, Train Song, Rift > Free, The Squirming Coil[1], La Grange
Set 2: David Bowie, A Day in the Life, Bathtub Gin -> The Lizards, You Enjoy Myself -> Rotation Jam > Sixteen Candles[2] > You Enjoy Myself[3], Harpua[4] -> Champagne Supernova[5] -> Harpua
Encore: Rocky Top
"You won't steal my poor heart again!"
I remember though thinking that everybody was really nice. Before the show some guy came up to me out of nowhere and started telling me how he met Page and got a signed copy of Hampton Comes Alive...that was pretty funny. Also I sat behind a wook who had like 8 beers in the first set alone and a couple more at set break and passed out during the second set and then woke up for the encore. I don't think that left a great impression with my dad...I don't think I'll be driving myself to phish anytime in 2013.
I'm home...
All I can say is thank god for 3.0
