9/12/99 ghost!!

MiguelSanchez Permalink
MiguelSanchez as some of you may know, i've been going through the "archive rebuilding" process. this has given me a great excuse to revisit some old favorites i haven't listened to in a while.

well, this morning, it was this beastly ghost!!

I have always considered this to be the "sister jam" to the legendary boise bag. the front half of this nearly 30 minute ghost, is very similar to an "ordinary" '99 ghost. it may be a touch slower than some of the hot ones they were throwing out in the summer, but it is still very pleasant. around the half way point, trey brings it back home into ghost territory. instead of closing it down, they embark on a completely different journey. they are hitting several ideas that would be more thoroughly explored two nights later in the boise bag. this final 10-15 minutes is everything you would expect from september '99, dark, spacey, exploratory, but still holding together nicely.

If you like the boise show 2 nights later, you owe it to yourself to pull down this gem from portland.

don't sleep on the roggae->space jam->2001->yem closing segment either.

westbrook Great Ghost. If I remember correctly, it also has some parts that are similar to the 5/22/00 Ghost (which I prefer). Love the Gin in the first set too.

Slothberries Yes, great Ghost!

I realized over the summer that my archives were severely lacking in 99 shows. Like many of us do from time to time, I went on a download frenzy.....and was I ever glad I did.

Good looks, @benhatley

my download frenzy was pretty intense this weekend. i hit '92-'00 pretty hard. I still have some gaps in '93-'94 I will fill later. I grabbed about a dozen shows from both '90 and '91. I haven't hit 2.0 very hard yet, mostly because i think the auds on the spread sheet are pretty mediocre.

Looks2Much I forgot that I created a two source mix of this show and never posted it...

It's a mix of Schoeps MK-4s from the section and the FOB MK21s

here is the Gin and the Ghost... listen to it and if anyone wants the whole show I would be glad to post it later on.

conradjohansen Always loved the description of this Ghost from the jam chart...

"Colossal virtual reality train ride across the wind-swept moors of ninth century England diving into a vortex which dumps out into orbit around Saturn."

Scary thing is, that IS an accurate description of this jam.

lacesoutmike Fall '99 is criminally underrated. Tons of great jams from this tour, including a number of great gins (9/22 is outstanding)

jmponder This is easily one of my favorite jams of all time. September '99 was a fantastic month for the band, really only the NOLA show stands out to me as sub-par
