MaybeSo_MaybeNot if you're heading west out of town, there is a great mexican joint with a whole great big giant tacky show. I can't recall the name of it, but it is west of town, not too far past the football stadium. Maybe a local can help with the name. This place was glorious.

standarsh I always suggest to people to check out the Washington Park area of Denver. 5 - 10 min drive tops from center city and this is one of my favorite places .

You must also go to a Santiago's (there are several throughout the city) for a breakfast burrito with green chili.

The_Mollusk Absolutely skip Casa Bonita. It's the worst Mexican food I've ever had and the restaurant itself is beyond cheesy and dirty. Do not eat there!

Santiagos breakfast burritos are amazing. (just finished one on my way into work)

Root Down is another restaurant worth looking into. Check their website.

For seafood, also check out Jax Fish House.

I put that on there as a joke of course. Yes the food is heinous. Yes the atmosphere is dirty. There is a just a novelty thing about that restaurant in Denver. Its been on South Park. Actually, I heard somewhere that the restaurant shut down. Can anyone confirm?

I think it's still open. I know there was a health code violation a few years back. But I can't be 100% sure. It's probably the one restaurant in Denver I would not even consider going to.

Edit: Pasta Jays is a good call too!

Dude, in elementary school, my school took field trips to Casa Bonita and I grew up in Colorado Springs. An hour drive for that restaurant? don't ask me why? the cliff divers are cool though.

We went there for a field trip too in elementary school. We were much closer than the Springs though. Cliff divers are relatively cool...other than that...F*CK that place.

Stranahan's is a great distillery and they have awesome food!! http://www.stranahans.com/home/

Buckhorn Exchange has all kinds of exotic meats and things.

AND if you're a dead head -- check out Sancho's Broken Arrow (just a bar, no food - but a cool atmosphere)

Cool River is very good also, but pretty pricey and thats down in the DTC area.

PlainDan Do you like Italian food? There is a really good place south of the city by the tech center. It is called Chianti's. I love this place. There are always a bunch of middle aged Italian men with good jokes and awesome hospitality as your waiters.

Everything is super authentic but they have the english descriptions so you actually know what you are ordering. The kicker is that this place is in a strip mall (there is another restaurant with the same owners downtown but its more $$) and the dining area is pretty small. You need to call ahead for reservations. Dinner will be $15-$25 per dish, and if you want a steak its more like $30-35.

Another good place for seafood is Max Gill and Grill off Gaylord St. Near Wash Park. Excellent fresh seafood, and awesome oyster selection!
