The show itself was great. Second set was one of the best sets of 3.0, and the best set to fall during a New Years run since Cypress.

Yeah 12/31/10 was the best NYE show of 3.0 that second set was glorious

yeah that is one of my favorite sets. Was supposed to be my first show. But instead i webcasted it because i couldnt find a ticket for face value.

I can certainly support the opinion expressed in the thread title, but just by ranking my favorite MSG 3.0 sets, I would probably have to disagree. Please note I was at all of these shows, so I am completely unbiased:

1. 12/30/12 Set II
2. 12/28/12 Set II
3. 1/1/11 Set II
4. 12/31/10 Set II

But honestly, I could move around these four in any order and be satisfied with the result.

12/31/10 set II does have one thing above the others, though. That Ghost. Before 2012, it was quite possibly my favorite jam of 3.0; it still remains near the top, and along with its brother from another mother in the 8/15/12 Ghost (seriously, these two Ghosts are eerily similar), might be the best pure HOSE jam since the 6/19/04 Piper.

as for 12/31/12, set 2 killer. song selection A+, my only problem being is the Light is very weak, hard to listen too tbh.

What about 11.28.09 II?

Possibly top 10 but even that is questionable. I would actually take 12/31/09 set 2 over it

I knew I should've been more specific. I meant were you comparing Carini to 10/31/98 Wolfman's or 10/31/95 YEM. As I said, I was wondering because I didn't feel like that Wolfman's really got "evil" per se. That YEM definitely does though.

Just relistened to 12/31 set II today and it is awesome. I still rank 12/30 higher but only by a nose.

2010 brah, not 2012. I didn't personally hear a set this run or last year that matched 12/31/10 set 2. Or from 2009. Or 2003 or 2002.

I think Burgettstown and BGCA are a bit overrated and I haven't listened to Merriweather. Dicks 1 is a top 3 show, Dicks 3 is not. Great show though.

Utica didn't quite hold up to the initial hype but it was another gem. Manchester wins on that tour IMO.

Worcester night 1 the best tour opener I've ever seen.

So its pretty tough to narrow it 3.0 down to 3 sets. Theres so many good jams in the beginning of some sets that dont finish strong also messing with things. Thats really why 12/31 is so good, its only 7 songs long with a bunch of good jas and tunes. 46 Days "ripped" just as much then as it does now, Sand with the plinko madness, a solid DwD, that Ghost speaks for itself and YEMteca brought the set home with a little extra then the normal YEM.

Anyways my top 3 sets are 8/31 Set 1, 7/3/11 Set 1, and 12/31 Set 2. Gorge 11, Dicks 3, and Worcester 12 aren't far behind either

I'd normally agree about #line, even though I often enjoy its jam following the relative cheesiness of the lyrics. But after Phish's first foray into 10/31/98 set III-level EVILNESS, that was a refreshing glass of ice cold milk after the mouth-scorching Guatemalan insanity pepper that was Carini. I thought its spot in that setlist was a stroke of genius.

This. Also I thought the jam in #line was excellent and I thorougly enjoyed it. I also think that BDTNL is normally done very well and jammed out and it boggles my mind whenever anyone on this site disses that song.

12/31/10 set 2 is great, but that NICU really keeps it from being an unbelievable set, IMO. trey really butchers it. otherwise all the songs are top notch
