Trey Anastasio Band question

posner08 Permalink
Hey pholks,

Never been to a TAB show before, but seeing Trey's frst show back in Canada in just a couple weeks! Not that it really matters too much, but I was just wondering what the atmosphere is like at a TAB show.

Any TAB show vets that could answer, that'd be sick.

Regardless, SUPER pumped!

A lot of fun. Just don't expect deep exploration, but the TAB show I saw at the Beacon in October killed. That was a great show.

walstib Trey has a blast. If you enjoy that, you'll have fun. The scene isn't as crazy as Phish shows but it is still a party. You're gonna love it.

as stated, it's fun a time, but no phish party.

just felt the need to restate it one more time though.

WGphan92 Can we openly smoke, like at a phish show?
Probably varies between venues, so if it matters, I'm going to the Palace show in Albany. Never been to TAB or this venue so idk what to expect either

As long as Trey is having a blast, I'm sure I will too. Looking forward to it!

MaybeSo_MaybeNot Trey looks like he is having a blast with TAB. It's a bunch of Phish phans at the show, but it's a little more mellow. They perk up a little bit when he throws a Phish tune in there, but overall this is a good show to catch. Don't go in there expecting Phish scene, because you will be let down. His band is actually pretty decent, and I love the horn section. I like their take on Jiboo more than Phish's, mainly because of the horn section. I may try to head up to Albany for TAB - good times.

much more poppy and commercial than phish but Trey still jams it out, just less exploration and more solidly tight jams. It's really really great but also not phish.

Hearing that Phish tune here and there is definitely something I'm looking forward to, but I'm very down with Trey's new stuff (which I can only assume is the bulk of the setlist). I think Traveler has an interesting sound to it, and besides, I need a Trey fix before the agonizing wait til the summer.

Yes, it has an interesting sound to it, and there are some solid tunes on it. However, like any Phish show, his stuff sounds WAY better live.

Depends greatly on the venue. Been to some shows where it was almost like Phish and a bowl magically appeared in my hand from a friendly neighbor. Been to others where you'd swear you were in Germany in the late 30's (corny nazi joke but you catch my drift.

Take the advice of the toucan

Smaller venues tend to be strict and can enforce such things easier than arenas. In Boston this fall people were being thrown out left and right for smoking.

walstib The Beacon was blazing but you still needed to be smart because security was on the lookout. The place was totally full of smoke by the end regardless.

harroldHOOD Permalink
harroldHOOD It's really about the venue. I can't really speak for Canada but I've seen them at two different venues and the atmosphere was very much that of a phish show. The crowd is all phish phans, you rarely get anyone who just sees TAB and not phish so you can pretty much expect anything you'd expect at a phish show, although living in Canada, that might have been quite some time ago so I have no idea how the times have changed...this may not have been that helpful. sorry!

FWIW: Ohio and PA venues were very cool with the Trey fans doing basically whatever. Both also had the NO2 mafia in the lot afterwards. Like I said....basically a phish show. Musically its quite different though and you should definitely check out a show from the recent run (may I suggest the LC Pavilion 2012-10-20 ? It has a nice First Tube-y aftertaste)

great times, the perfect fix for when phish is on a break

trey really gets into it and you can tell how much he enjoys giving these other (very talented) musicians a chance to play in front of big enhtusiastic crowds

he will play a few covers, few phish songs (that actually started as tab songs), traveler shine and other solo stuff, maybe a few acoustic

Palmer TAB in Columbus OHIO this past October was a great time. Very high energy, some solid Trey Band throwdowns. The entire show is a good time, very worth seeing.
