Best ever Light on 9/1/12.
Best Limb might be 8/28/12.
The Sand from 9/2/12 is certainly in the Top 5 Sands of all time, but I think the greatest Sand of all time is either 12/13/99 and 12/31/99.

Arguably Sand and Rock and Roll.I would argue that the best Rock and Roll ever was 8/5/11.
Best ever Carini on 12/30/12.Not even my favorite of '12. I would say 6/7 is in the running for best Carini ever.
Best ever Carini on 12/30/12.Sign'd. Limb By Limb has a few really great type II versions (a Dec. '99 comes to mind however I am drawing a blank on the date).

I don't think Carin and Light cna even be argued though. Both transcend and previous versions.
Most dynamic Sand for sure, and best ever depends on your taste for 99/00 style jams. It's certainly the Sand that goes the deepest (although the Quad Topplings out of Sand during Cypress goes very deep, I suppose.

Light, Caspian, Undermind at Dick's.
The DCU Boogie, SPAC Sally are my favorites of all time although I recognize there are other versions which others would rate higher.
edit; just realized this was 2012 and not just 2.0. Carry on

Both the Piper and the If I Could from Spac are right up thereIf I Could from DCU > > > than SPAC. I gave that and some other versions a bunch of close listens right after that, and its certainly in contention. Hard to displace 7/1/1995. Hard to even compare though, as DCU remains a beautiful, delicate If I Could, while 7/1/1995 morphs into raging phish-energy rock and roll (granted, within the structure of the song.)
I think Undermind is one I would definitely choose, were I wont to declare "best evers". Which I am decidedly not.

Serious answer: 8/31 Undermind, obvs. 8/31 Chalkdust could be up there too; I like it better than the 7/13/99 version, but that's probably not a majority opinion. Take your pick of the Dick's or BGCA Light as best ever. I would even nominate the Riverbend Twist as the best ever of that song.

RE Dicks3
I'm just having a hard time putting any Sand that didn't come out of those incredible Dec. '99 versions as a "best ever". I guess it comes down to preferance, but IMO, Sand peaked that tour. Sure, there have been some really great Sands since, but those spaceship Sands that tour are, to me, exactly what Sand is about.Raleigh. 1999.12.16. Woah.

Any song played in 2012 can be considered the best ever if you feel like it is.you mean 7/10/99 for chalkdust and yeah that is the best one imo. I definitely think dicks sand was the best i've heard and probably my favorite jam of the year. 12/30 carini is in 2nd place and my favorite carini.

The first Carini was the greatest everThis is so on point. The 1st time they played it in Amsterdam in 1997 was mind blowing. 12/30/12 version was good but not even close to 2/17/1997.

Dicks Sand. Worcester boogie

what about bill graham sneakin sally ? im not up on my sally history but this one is so triumphant12/30/97 was a bit more triumphant...
6/7 as best ever Torn and Frayed and Nothing.I'd say the 6/12/09 KDF is better.
7/8 best ever Kill Devil Falls

-8/31/12 Chalk Dust doesn't even come close to touching 7/10/99. Just no.
-8/8/98 and 10/31/98 are both significantly better than BGCA Sally (taken as standalone jams).
-Riverbend Twist doesn't come close to Island Tour or Fukuoka.
-I'm coming around on the Long Beach RnR. For a while in August I thought 8/5/11 was better, but LB is growing on me. I think it might be the better jam, despite the absolute filth that is the segue into Meatstick.
-I might be willing to call the DCU Boogie On best ever. Chula Vista '99 is a great jam, just so much different that it's hard to call one better than the other.
I don't know. This is obviously all subjective, and it is pretty cool that the best jams in 2012 were good enough to even prompt this discussion.
off topic, I know
@n00b100 I thought you were all about Fukuoka. You prefer Riverbend?I'm not sure, honestly. As a part of the set it's in, the Fukuoka Twist has it beat quite handily. As an actual stand-alone jam? It's a more interesting debate. I would still go with Fukuoka, but it's not open and shut. I do think the Riverbend Twist is better than the Island Tour or Cypress's versions.
I think of these best show/jam debates like how you're instructed to pitch onto the green in golf - no instructor worth a damn would tell you to go for the cup, but just to aim for a general part of the green you feel safe putting from. Same general principle here, only this time the cup doesn't exist. So all we can do is hit our shots close to where the cup might be. YMMV (see @chris200w's post), but I think all the 2012 jams I mentioned (as well as the 8/28 LxL, which I didn't) come close to the cup.
