Can't say I'm a fan. The music they're releasing these days is much too poppy & simplistic for my liking. I was into the albums Anchor Drops and Local Band Does O.K, and if their setlists were to only be composed of tracks off those albums I would like this band a lot more.
Sadly, the new poppy tracks are what's making it into their setlists as of late. I've been to over 30 UM shows since 2007, and I don't really have a desire to see them ever again.
I've seen them once and I had a great time. Sweet jams and they played Anchor Drops which was kick ass. I agree 100% with this statement about them though. The simplistic poppy and electronic sounds that they've added over the past few years don't do it for me and I feel like it ruins the quality of jams
Can't wait for Providence. Tiny venue, should rock.
a lot of .netters going to providence for such a small show. awesome!
God DAYUM those boys can JAYUM!
I finally got around to listening to a few recordings a little while back, and I dug it, but it didn't really grab me; but then, as it always happens, "then I saw them live".
These guys are serious. From the limited exposure I've had so far, it's mostly reggae-dub (as the name suggests), but they can also stretch it out into really jammy, dancy territory, and their playing is tight as hell, too (they've been around for about a decade or so now). Definitely unique, definitely worth checking out.
@phishiNYG , @dyn0mite , and @KyraGreenberg i will keep an eye out for you. i have quite a few friends with tickets going to this. maybe someone elses wife will get knocked up too
either way, just go, there should be extras floating around. if not providence is crazy you never know. you might be able to figure something out. sneak in. barter with the guy at the door. etc.

I'm listening my way through their new years run now, I'm in Bright Lights Big City > Cocaine > BLBC now. They are playing with some serious hunger, feels like the same kind of hunger as 1993 Phish.
I'm not comparing the MUSIC so no one flame me!! I'm comparing the hunger, precision and energy.
Every show seems to sell out.
Why don't they try touring small arenas?

They always undersell tickets on websites for the Brooklyn Bowl. I think they think it helps eliminate scalpers profiting off tickets.
If you want to see them, go to the doors around 630-7pm the night of the show and you'll get in. During their 5 run night a year or so ago, I got into three shows without having tickets at 6pm each day. You may have to wait a couple hours for the band to come on, but the BKBowl is awesome and you can eat a good meal, drink good beer, and even play a couple games of (expensive) bowling.
You may even run into ?uestlove.

also, since only one of my friends got tickets to the show, he would like to trade the ticket for a beacon ticket if anyone's interested.

Thanks man! I'm checking all the boards, but I don't know that many people in the UM scene compared to phish.
Things usually come together! I'll likely show up and see what I can do if I don't secure anything pre-show! If I don't get in, have a blast for me!

Every show seems to sell out.no just small venues in heavily populated areas.i have seen them 4 times and none of those shows were sold out. on their website 5 shows are sold out out of like 30.
Why don't they try touring small arenas?
Most of the venues they play are small under 2000 capacity Brooklyn Bowl is only 600
exactly, they just sold out 2,900 for the beacon show.
anyone going tonight? ill be there, 2nd time seeing them

Nonetheless, I love these guys and I'm stoked to be seeing them again.
Was at the show at the Landmark last night in Syracuse. First time seeing them, only listened to 'em a handful of times beforehand. I had a great time (theater was great), although I agree with some people, that things seemed choreographed a bit. I felt like all the big jams had similar segments, almost like the same movements set to different orchestral suites.
I will say that I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of groove thrown in during the early second set especially. I'd be down to see 'em once a tour, not sure about anything more than that.
Last note: first set > second set b/c the guitarist with the nasal voice sang less in the first set. Less lyrics, more playing

Was given free tickets to tonight at the Beacon! I can't say I love then as a "jam band" because I find them lacking some soul, and they don't seem to go out as far on a limb while jamming (Type 2). Well at least it seems to me like the jams are extremely choreographed.how was the show for you?

I put my antenna up for two for the Brooklyn birthday show, but, I don't see that happening, I'm going to hit up that stream for 7.99 though.
Getting excited for providence tonight. Just realized the venue is right down the street from the world famous Olneyville NY System. I for one, will be soaking up my beers with Ri hot wieners after the show. If you are from out of town and have never been there, go! And get 3 with the works!
Anyone know what time the show starts tonight in Providence?
8:30 doors 9:30 show per Fete Providence website. Umphs website confirms 9:30 start. This show is on "Providence time" late late
So I've seen UM 10 times, the last being the other night in Syracuse. For nine shows, I was always that guy being bummed that they aren't doing what I want.
Then came Thursday. The band blew me away. Amazing. I was expecting a guitar clinic like I usually see from them, but damn they were on point with soul and you could tell they cared.
And Waful, he's on par with CK5. Thought I'd share that I am now an UM fan, and hope to build on that one awesome show.
So many people looking for extras for tonight.
Is there an opener, or will Umphreys go on at 9:30?

Awesome band, great jams! Need a little more soul IMO.
Awesome band, great jams! Need a little more soul IMO.I could get on board with that statement. They tend to get a bit Trans Siberian Orchestra at times.
No hate, still love them.
If anyone has tix to tonight's show at Brooklyn bowl, please PM me.
