Hell yeah they rip the shit out of that song too. You should check out the 30th when you get a chance. Second set: Bright Lights-> Cocaine-> Bright Lights is such a smooth sandwich of the two songs. They got some versatility when it comes to covers. I mean shit going from Hendrix, Clapton, Zeppelin, to f***ing Bob Seger! Check out the Hollywood Nights bust out from the 28th if you haven't heard that one, just makes me feel good mannnn!
Seconded about the Bright Lights-> Cocaine-> Bright Lights. The 30th was the only night I caught, and at times it was really, really good; especially the second set. I feel like a lot of times, though, they are right there about to take me to another plane, and then the pull out right when it's getting good. They definitely have the chops, and there are bits of brilliance in every show I've seen, but they ripcord more than trey.
There is a reason I (and many I met there on the 30th) went to panic for NYE. And before you bash me for a spreadhead, I would have been a MSG if I could afford it.
I went to all 4 and I stand by the Slacker from the 28th as the jam of the run. Bright Lights was awesome though \mm/

dyn0mite Ended up scoring a Fete ticket last minute. I thoroughly enjoyed the Providence show. JaJunk encore was sweet as was the talking heads cover.

MARCO_ESQUAND0LAS Crowd noise was out of control at the Beacon too. I'm sorry, but UM fans are a loud/annoying/dorky bunch.

Music was straight fire, though.

The UM fans at Providence were just as bad if not worse. Drunk, falling all over you, talking the whole show, trying to scream the lyrics to In the Flesh in my ear, moving into and standing in your space.

Like you said the band is pretty good though.

Credit where credit is due - when it was an appropriate time to cheer, the place was deafening.

I was definitely "seated" next to the AG of Umphrey's. LED Glowgloves flailing everywhere. I gave up my 5th row seat to move to the 2nd to last row of the venue just to get away from the awful crowd up front. It was just as noisy in the back.

Oh god. It's "All-in-Time" Greg. IF IT'S POSSIBLE, (and I don't know if it is possible to be worse than 'lopeG), I imagine such a person actually being much worse/more annoying for Umphrey's given the often frenetic pace of the music? You'd getting rapid fire, rock-em sock em elbows to the dome

That's wayyyy different than Phish fans! Lol

I thought the show was amazing. Yes their jamming style is lacking some imagination and you can predict where it's going, but their execution is tops in the jam business right now. And Jake is probably the best technical guitarist I've ever seen live... He's up there with the big names if you ask me.

Providence was a top notch umphreys show. Very much on the heavy side musically. I was into it. But yea umphreys crowds get talkative. It kind of sucks. Especially when you go back and listen to the auds and all you hear is chatter. Hopefully their crowd matures a bit, or starts drinking less. Yea probably not.

And yes jake is a 10 out of 10 guitar player in every phase of the instrument. He is the reason I go see them.

Saw Umphreys for the first time last night, and... Wow, Waful is an amazing lighting guy. If anything happens to Kuroda, this guys deserves a shot to step in. The music was a nice accompaniment to the light show. People were saying it was an amazing show and I just... Yeah. Not for me. The music didn't move me in any way (except maybe a little during one first set jam. They're good, and I might see them again, but they're in no danger of supplanting phish.

phan83 I was at same show @jargonx was at (sorry we never ended up finding you). It was my first show as well, and i thought it was awesome!

I had a lot of fun and could not stop dancing. I ended up dancing so hard that I was raging! Whaaaaat who are these guys???

Met some really cool people who had us back at their place nearby for an afterparty... anyway, epic night, epic weekend, and I am a brand new umphreys fan!

CannedWalrus Saw them for the first time at the Neptune in Seattle on 3/14. Was wearing a pi shirt and the bass player kept pointing it out. I am not very familiar with their music at all, and I've got to say I was beyond pleasantly surprised. I was not expecting the music to be as heavily composed as it is. Jams were fearlessly exploratory, and the show was absurdly loud.

Cinninger's tones are not my favorite, and sometimes they get a little shreddy, but I'd definitely see them again.
