Is 11/10/95 Hood on your best-of list?

dsanbensoff Permalink
dsanbensoff Hey .net, I can't remember if this version is widely liked or not. I just listened recently, and this it is a superb version. Do people like/talk about this version? I'll admit, it's not the most exciting version, but I think it's really great.

For one, it seems like a response to how quiet the fox was during sweet adeline. as if, they were so happy to sing a cappella for such a quiet audience, that they came out for the encore and played such a sublime version.

Highlights:
- long, interesting, opening section
- spot-on composed section, with some impressive interplay
- jam drops to almost nothing (were trey and mike playing unamplified?)
- slow build, with trey playing with a relatively simple, but effective, hood lick
- trey opens up a bit near the end.
- continued build to "you can feel good", band ends together
Score: 1

westbrook Permalink
westbrook I think it's a pretty great version. I like the extended intro and the gradual build from the quiet section in the jam. It doesn't peak quite as well as my favorites like 12/31/93 and 4/10/94, but it's definitely a strong Hood.

Yeah and it's strange because of that show being an official release, awesome Hood. The whole Mike's Groove is just nuts

really good version, thanks for the heads up. pretty much convinced me to start working backwards through fall 1995 as a re-listen (I listened to all of December 1995 this December).

"another not talked about hood imo is 12/6/96 "

12/6/96 Vegas Hood is my favorite in terms of full band sound/flow. They are all on exactly the same page. No one really steps out over each other but the sound is just extremely full, which I find to be unique compared to the 12/31/93 where Trey goes absolutely nuts(and i have no issue with that, either.) The Vegas Weekapaug after might also be one of the best, which doesn't hurt.

does anyone have a link to the Hood the OP Is talking about? Need to give it a listen.

Roofless_Sheds i will DEFINITELY scope this out. thanks for the heady rec!

my two recent-favorite underrated Hoods come from 12/1/94 @ Salem Armory (official release, perfect ending for an insane set full of segues) and 8/15/12 @ Long Beach. when's the last time you listened to THAT one? the first time i heard it, i thought to myself... this is IT. this is the old-school, patient, creative, multi-part, Trey-led Hood we've been waiting for for a good 3 years now. dig it!

I love the middle flow of this Hood. That made the this Jam. Very beautiful. The Mood of this whole hood was to match the venue is my guess. Wish I was there for the 3 show run. Was not to thrilled about the peak of this hood. Could have been a really special Hood. In the beginning of this there is a slight no quarter tease from Mike. Check it out. My list is not exact science. lol Phish had hundreds of nice jams in 95. 1995 was incredible year and a incredible year for Hoods. Check out 10/7 & 12/30.

dsanbensoff I agree about the peak. I would argue, though, that the ending of the song is the "peak" if you will in this version. and yup, I know the others well! my original post was just to see if others liked this version, cause I don't hear about it as much.
