Solar Garlic: A Tribute to Phish

RovingReporter Permalink
RovingReporter So, gang, I went to the Westcott last night to check out these guys, who are a Syracuse-bred four-piece.

Let's start out by saying that for a band's second show EVER, these guys were pretty good. It was obvious they had some nerves to begin the show, but as they moved on, they let loose more.

The best part was that their jams weren't JUST like Phish. I compare DSO to the Dead, and DSO's jams are exactly like the Dead's jams.

Solar Garlic focused a lot on rhythmic jams, similar to 1998 Phish, with a lot of wah and funk grooves. I won't go as far as saying they are spectacular, but this band has serious potential if they continue to practice like they do.

They NAILED Slave. It's not the hardest song in Phish's catalog, but it is not at all an easy song and Solar Garlic took it to the next level.

I know many, MANY people who are turned off by cover or tribute bands, but these guys put their hearts and souls into the music they played lsst night.

In short, if you live in central New York, I highly recommend seeing these guys. Aside from being solid on stage, they are all pretty cool guys.

I hope this helps fans know about good music, and I hope to continue weekly Phish.net forum reports about new music or bands I see.

sorry but i have to disagree

they are good musicians, granted, and the bathtub gin jam was god

for the most part their timing is way off and that lead singer cant sing, nor can they harmonize (the keyboardist actually had a decent voice)

they have a long way to go to be as good as the lawnboys and should not be charging a cover to see them

Looks like they are playing colemans on a thursday night in a couple weeks, which is probably the right direction

just giving my unbiased opinion

I can't disagree with the vocals, h owever, I see a ton of potential in them.

@Phakemike would you want to meet up sometime? I don't have many heads friends here in Syracuse. Would be cool to hang with some like-minded individuals!

Wow, I sound like that outcast in school who everyone makes fun of.
