Did every night of MSG this year and had a truly amazing time, but Dicks is still so much better. I'm thinking maybe 12/30 could beat out Dicks 2, but seriously! Why can't we get the jams they got. Opinions anyone?

They're different kinds of awesome. There's lots of great music in MSG, but the overall vibe feels like "we're here to have fun" (c/f the NYE show). Dick's feels like the band had something to prove (including topping themselves from last year), and boy did they do it.I would agree that I like 12/30 more than 9/1. But comparing most shows to 8/31 or 9/2 is going to be a tough haul anyway.

Agreed. Only saw N1 and N4 in Person at MSG, but man, there is just something about Dick's. They turned the hose on BIG TIME out there and loved every second of it!

every time someone mentions how great Dick's is I get mad a little because nobody would lend me their car to drive up there from Arizona. So mad I couldnt go. That would have been the best weekend of my life. Instead: meh.

I agree the jams from Dick's this summer were just the best. If I had to pick Dick's or MSG NYE this past year and the year's going forward I gotta go with Dick's. (I did both runs at Dick's and MSG in '10 and '11)I was just thinking of all the contrasts between the two runs yesterday;
Summer vs. Winter
Outdoor vs. Indoor
Gag at beginning of the run vs. the end
Culmination of long summer tour vs. stand alone winter run
"Country" vs. City
Pretty interesting that two Phish shows could both provide a great time in such different ways.

I think that 12.30 stands right with Dick's 2 and 3 for the fact that not only did they jam very well at MSG night 3, but they jammed uniquely. I think the Disease and Carini hold some of the most unique jamming in 3.0 hands down. I think it's fairly unanimous that 8.31 was the best this year. Dick's was right at the end of a massive summer tour. The momentum was on their side. The fact that the band summoned the magic they did at MSG is fairly impressive considering the time spent off the road. I also think that 12.28 is in the conversation, but hey that's just my opinion, man. Any route, the band is continuing to jam...and jam well. This is exciting stuff for sure.

Only got to go to the MSG run, while many of my phriends were at the Dick's shows too. Extremely thankful I've gotten to see the whole new years run the last two years, but I refuse to miss the next run in Colorado.

The fact that we are even comparing MSG to Dicks is awesome. We had high expectations and hopes for this run and they delivered the goods. Think of this time last year when everyone was bitching about the quality of the New Years run.Best ever? NO.

Top to bottom I enjoyed Dicks more. But MSG's moments were so transcendental, personally I give the edge to MSG. Carini alone blows away anything I've seen/heard in 3.0.

Both years of dick's have been absolutely insane. I personally liked dicks more but i watched msg from a couch. Not taking anything away from MSG but I think we all love dicks, Runaway Jim, !!!UNDERMIND!!!!!, A really good yem, bust out Emotional Rescue from the first day are all fantastic in their own way. Day 2 with the huge light, and my personal favorite, the sand into ghost on day 3. 8=============)'s
