which one to go to? making the drive from western new york.
also, bars + resturants are a bonus. Heard killington there isn't much to do aside from the slope.
Heard stowe has more of a 'atmosphere' outside the mountain.
Let me hear your rec's.

Killington will definitely have better "nightlife" options and music. Stowe probably has better high-end restaurants, but there are plenty of good places to eat in Killington.
They are both great mountains with a ton of terrain. Killington is probably a little bigger with more terrain, but Stowe is right up there. One disadvantage of K-ton is that, without knowing the place, you can get stuck on a lot of crossover trails.
Hard to make a wrong decision. What level skier/rider are you and your group? If you can get here on a weekday, and avoid the crowds, your on-mountain experience will be about a billionty times better.
killington !

I can't tell you much about Killingtons night life but I know the terrain is great. A deciding factor could be travel time. If you are coming in from the south by car, Stowe is a good two to two and a half hours further than Killington. That applies to the west as well.
Good luck!
Also, Stowe being an hour and a half north probably isnt losing as much snow in this little thaw we are having.
Also, if you wanted to take a night to check out Burlington, that is much more accessible from Stowe.
Also, if you like beer, you go right by the Alchemist Cannery (and several places that serve a lot of Hill Farmstead and Lawson's Finest) on the way to Stowe.
None of this to take away from K-ton. I lived near there for like 7 years; its an awesome mountain. And you do have the Long Trail Brewery just 15 mins away. You could also check some of the killington music venues to see if they have anything good going on that would sway your choice. You're not really gonna make a bad choice on this one.
@Harrynuggs - the shed is no more. It is now a restaurant called the Crop Bistro.
definately killington. best east coast mountain IMO
But a lot of it might be lost on self-described intermediates. Trail maintenance could be questionable. You need to want to be in the woods all day to maximize the experience.
Though I do kinda want to check out the new waterpark...
Jay peak! Lake effect and cheap lift tixs ($45 with student ID)! Only real pow/tree skiing on the east
Thank you for all the advice.
jay peak, smuggs , or killington !
