Just wondering what percentage of people were tripping on something at the show they consider to be the best they have been to.
I started seeing the band in 04 and of all the shows I've seen, two are tied for best I've ever seen, 6/19/04 at SPAC and 12/30/12 at MSG. At the spac show I was sober except for a couple hits of pot and at the MSG show on the 30th I had taken a hit of acid.
Sometimes I wonder how much of a factor drugs are in people considering a show as the best they have ever been to or whatever.
For some perspective, I was tripping balls at camden 11 and thought it was amazing but the replay value of the show wasn't that great, nor was the general response to that show.

Yes. 8/17/97. Tripping balls on Mescaline. We took the pills during the break between the day set and the EPIC set II. I got really sick after taking it. But once that passed, the euphoria kicked in and I had what turned out to be one of the best nights of my life.
When I go too far, I don't remember much. Like NYE last year. Speaking of which, I'd like to apologize to everyone else in section 105 for the last half of that night. I can admit now that I did not make Phish play "Iron Man."
I love you all.
First, there's no way I could identify the "best" show I went to.
Second, I've probably dosed at maybe 6 - 10 shows out of 80-ish. So the odds are strongly against.
That said, if one of the nights of the Went or Lemonwheel is "the best show I went to," then maybe the answer is yes.
Or maybe how f***ed up feature, like a 1-10 scale?
10/26/10 and 12/30/12 were both enhanced by L. they wouldve been great dead sober as well

That said -- I make a point to be 100% sober every few shows I attend. And many of my favorites have been at these shows. (6/29/2000, 4/2/1998, 7/31/2009, and 12/28/12 for some examples)
Though 3 gel-tabs at Great Went for the Art-jam set is my most "memorable" Phish experience. (Perhaps slightly too much) pure MDMA at 2/28/03 and 7/30/03 made for my most "intense" Phish experiences.
I thin they are of course a factor. Hallucinogens certainly affect the way you feel music.

6-19-94: 2 doses of good, clean LSD.
12-6-97: Mushrooms
6-3-11: High on life.
I enjoyed all 3 equally.
@johnnyd @sethadam1 @theemu is thayer a way would could add the substances we were on to our stats? This is the worst idea I've ever read on this message board.

My answer however, is yes/probably.
At MSG this year I was on no drugs besides a hit of super clean L on the 31st.
The whole run was amazing but that last show definitely struck me as something important in own way, much more than the rest.
The 31st was my first show on the rail, and most certainly my favorite experience to come yet. Im not saying that the L made it the best show yet for me (definitally would have still been in my top 3) but god damn did it heighten the excitement. For some reason Character Zero was way more effective on my psyche. That song really got me going.
I really like this thread and am excited to see what others will post. Thanks OP!!!
7/11/00
11/11/98
7/4/99(fire work'ed)
Definitely not the best show I've been at, but one of my favorites.
Honestly the best in terms of song selection and quality of the music, I probably was sober for, but I don't even notice being sober/fucked up once the music takes me. Sometime when set break hits, those lights turn on and I realize, I am super super spun, but during the music, I'm just there, dancing my ass off and grinning from cheek to cheek.
not at the best shows I've seen but always ends up being the most fun/craziest dance party shows.
Yes. Def. & mdma
Mushrooms @ Oswego was a life changing event. I thought we were all on a giant conveyor belt heading under the stage to the afterlife. Yet I was overjoyed by that fact. It was our last party on earth.
Yeah. Admittedly, I am able to hear the music more clearly, and find it easier to pick out each player and what they are doing at a given moment. On top of the sound being enhanced, it unlocks a kind of childlike excitement in me where everything takes on a new, grander meaning. I am much more likely to experience something spiritual or life-changing in that circumstance.
Regardless of all that though, I've had loads of fun at every show, and can tell--tripping or not--when they are really getting it. Still, I can't help that the best shows I've seen I also happened to be tripping.

This
And yes I was
f*** no.
also tripping balls at the only phish show i didnt have a blast at
Yes, at the best but also at the worst show(s)... doesn't make or break, can enhance but can also get in the way.
Music exists within the constraints of time and space, psychedelics take you out of time and space.
I have only tripped at....
SPAC 09
Bethel N3
and NYE'11
edit: actually 12-28-09 and 12-31-09 i wasnt on psychedelics but not by choice lol!
8/31/12
9/2/12
12/30/12
I don't think I'd feel differently about these three had I not taken a dose, or taken something else, or just had beers. These three shows were unbelievable, and continue to be upon countless sober listens.
