Howdy hey,
If you haven't heard it, I suggest you listen to the solo from "inca roads" by Frank Zappa off the album One Size Fits All. The solo starts at around 1:55 into the song.
Personally, this is the greatest electric guitar solo I have ever heard, apart from the great blues solos of Hendrix/Vaughan/ Albert and BB king, etc
The reason this guitar solo is the greatest apart from those of the aforementioned blues greats is because of the melodic awesomeness, harmonic originality, and lasting influence of the solo on modern musicians such as the members of phish.
My ears tell me that the jam in Reba is inspired by, if not nearly identical, to Frank Zappa's Inca Road's solo.
The similarity between the jams is strikingly similar, and to me seems like a sort of musical footnote. I do not mean this in demeaning way at all, in fact quite the contrary: I believe that the jam in Reba is a bibliographical reference to Frank Zappa's inspiration to Phish.

Yup, my thoughts exactly. When I first heard Reba, I thought.. hey, Inca Roads jam! I do like Zappa's approach a bit better and with a slower, more patient tempo. But, if we're talking about similar jam passages, I prefer the Curtain With solo. It's the same idea with a triplet feel, a little more floaty, and more time spent on the first chord, with shots on the second. I like the way it lingers on the 7th chord and we wait longer for it to resolve to the tonic. Real satisfying. But I'll take a Reba when it's dealt.
