Trey's Song List Summer '97

DriedupGoliath Permalink
DriedupGoliath Thought those of you who don't peruse Reddit would enjoy this:

It's the song list that Trey drew from in the summer of '97 to craft setlists.

Thanks to scottb57 for posting this cool little nugget.

cjfphan21 Great, now I'm gonna be spending hours trying to figure out what some of those categories are. The four obvious ones are acapella, bluegrass, classic jam tunes and covers, but what are the rest?

Thanks for posting this.

The very last one is new tunes.

I think the one with Guyute at the top is rarer songs.

I'm guessing the one with Bottom and Scent are more classic Phish songs not usually jammed out (Wolfman's obviously changed VERY soon after)

cjfphan21 @jerryguscia Those all make sense. I guess the first one would be regular set openers/closers and filler tunes?

@driedupgoliath after reading that post again I feel I should say I really do mean thanks for posting it. I can see how that could be interpreted the wrong way because of what precedes it.

Also, I see a few unfamiliar titles: Anthem? No Regrets? Long Time Comin? Waterwheel? Anybody have some dirt on these?

I assume Anthem is the National Anthem, The Star Spangled Banner.

Tube was busted out in the fall of '97 (12/7/97) I guess it wasn't on their radar yet.

I know--I decided not to go to that Dayton show and really regretted it. My bafflement comes from the fact that equally rare-for-the-era tunes like Faht, ATR, Brother, etc are on this list, but not Tube. Just an observation.

cjfphan21 Maybe the unfamiliar titles are names of jams they had solidified that could be used for certain transitions or outros for certain songs? We've already seen evidence that they've played planned jams (or at least parts).

Love You is Syd Barrett isn't it? I know Fishman does the dirty work, but he didn't write it.

Yeah - I was just stating that was the category. All of the cover songs are italicized on the list.

Yeah, it's six-hours long and essentially just barreling jazz-funk (with whistling taboot [always makes a song good]). It's insane; but you can only get a recording if you do a headstand for 20 minutes while eating 4 pounds of macaroni and cheese and drinking a gallon of milk...while whistling.

johnnyd Magilla'd. Interesting. Once in winter '97, once Summer Europe, once in the US.

Would have guessed "No Regrets" is "Curtain" but that is on their too...

"No Regrets" and "I Don't Care" are both on Trampled By Lambs and Pecked By the Dove, so Trey/Tom songs that never saw the light of CK5

Listening to No Regrets right now (couldn't find a version online). It would have been awesome to see what kind of jam this could have come out of.

dealgodown Permalink
dealgodown Is this possibly a list from a single show? Or string of shows? Maybe thats why some songs arent included?

Edit: maybe these songs are options to choose from for a certain show. So trey could look down and see a filler/jam/bluegrass/acapella/new song and choose whats appropriate and not played recently for this particular time/show

I haven't gone through the whole thing yet, but some revelations:

Other unlisted songs: Hood, Weekapaug, Hydrogen (maybe intrinsically linked with Mike's), Sparkle, Gumbo, Funky Bitch

Tweezer was only played twice all summer

Ain't Love Funny is the song that's listed under Waterwell or Waterwheel (it's a lyric)
