I know many of you have heard of Trey's latest endeavor, a Broadway show that goes under the name, "Hands on a Hardbody." I've read a few threads over the past year or two, and as many of you know, 2 songs from Fall 2010, Burn That Bridge, and My Problem Right There, are from the show. For full and complete disclosure's sake, I have no financial stake in the success or failure of this show. I do have friends who are involved, and I was offered an opportunity to invest, but my financial reality precluded me from pulling the trigger. That said, tickets for this incredible show are now on sale. I would encourage everyone to check it out at some point. I am not a Broadway guy in general, but having seen 2 pre-production readings of the show, I thought it was excellent. It didn't hurt that I got to meet Trey both times, and sitting behind he and his family during the first reading, I was able to witness the genuine emotion in his face seeing his show come to life. The show captures a real slice of americana, and touches on some real-life issues affecting so many people in this country. The music is not Phish, make no mistake about it. But the creative force of the band we all hold so dear has taken a huge leap out into another genre, and what better way to show our support for him and his creativity than to go out and support this show? A happy Trey is a creative Trey is a force to be reckoned with as we've all watched over the past few years, culminating in that ridiculous Dick's run and a superb New Year's Run. We're entering the 30th year anniversary run for the Phish from Vermont, and I'd love to see Big Red entering the year with an infusion of confidence and joy. Take your friends, take your parents, go see a great show. www.handsonahardbody.com Cheers.

Inspired by true events...
It’s been a tough year for the ten strangers competing for a new hardbody truck, but now their fate is in their hands. Over the next 144 hours they will laugh, cry and push their bodies and minds to the limits as they fight to keep at least one hand on a brand new truck. The contestant with the most nerve — and tenacity — will drive away with the American Dream.
Based on the documentary film of the same name, Hands on a Hardbody features a brilliant score from Amanda Green and Trey Anastasio, along with a masterful story by Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright.

Sounds like Trey kept his hands of the story telling lyrics.....nice moves
not with a 15 foot pole. What I WOULD touch is a bet that off-season Trey (it's a concept—grab ahold of it before drowning sets in) could give two craps what some 'expert' on phish.net thinks about the non-Phish work.
I am potentially going to be in NYC during the 1st week of April for a few days. I'm considering going to see this while I am there if I can fit it in.

I found it curious that they brought out the 2 songs, Problem Right There and Burn that Bridge, and then dropped them. It seemed almost like a tease, or just a very subtle invitation to the Phish community to check out what he was doing. In any event, given the huge cross over some of his other projects have had within the community, i.e. playing with symphonies, I would expect a big chunk of our now 30 something fan base would be willing to give Broadway Trey a try. Personally, I found myself enjoying it far more than I ever expected. They weren't dropped from the show, just the Phish rotation.

It's your life to live, so you don't want to spend/waste the money I get it, but if you're in the NYC area it might be a good evening out on the town and you might even enjoy it.
@me_no_are_no_nice_guy, if you're into Broadway style entertainment why wouldn't you want to see this show? From what I've heard from friends it is done well, and OP seems very passionate for the production. It's your life to live, so you don't want to spend/waste the money I get it, but if you're in the NYC area it might be a good evening out on the town and you might even enjoy it.Just based on the songs I've heard, and knowing Trey's song writing. I mean, if this were playing down the street from me, and cost 20 bucks, I'd possibly consider it (which goges against my 15 foot pole statement, i know), but it's not something I would pay what they're asking, and do any sort of traveling for.

Oh, right. I must of got that wrong. Doubt it though... And if ur a fan of phish, then u must like trey. Why hate on it? I just don't get that pessimistic mentality. Keep it to yourself if you're gonna start calling people names. Remember your manners. Simple common sense if u ask me.

What does that even mean? I never said every single trey song sounds like it belongs on broadway, because I'd be wrong if I did. I said "A lot", and then you took the one obvious example in A Land of Nod and tried to be a smartass with it. It's not that hard to understand.

The LA Hands on a Hardbody shows were "do-able" for us, we live in AZ, could crash at my sister's home in Glendale CA, easy to fly into Burbank from the PHX. But I don't feel like driving 12 hours round trip or dropping $400 for 2 RT tickets to see a musical. I will openly acknowledge that we had ZERO problems doing this for TAB and bouncing from LA to Oakland in 2011.
I think it comes down to a matter of convenience, if I still lived within a 45 minute train ride from NYC I would check it out for sure. After all, it's Trey's music, just not him playing it...
@llama, great idea, you get lots of relationship points for going to a Broadway production on Valentine's day, might as well be something that you are interested in too!
