[2] Altered lyrics.

Notes: Stash ended with a full band Can’t Turn You Loose tease. After Stash, Trey announced a contest where the winner would receive four tickets and backstage passes to any show in the next year and, jokingly, a date with Fishman. The question centered on what all of the songs played in the first set, with the exception of Driver, had in common. The answer was that all songs were in the Key of D. Happy Birthday was also played (for Trey) during the contest announcement. Cities was an appropriate choice as an encore for Memphis, and Trey altered the lyrics a bit for the occasion.

jerryguscia I know I might as well put a bullseye on my forehead, but I personally never understood the love for 06/22/94, I listened to it once and didn't find it particularly interesting.

That said, (I haven't listened to many of the 95s, but) I love:
12/01/95 (that transition and differently keyed Weekapaug kicks ASS)
12/31/95 (don't consider it a Mike's Groove personally, but the Mike's and Paug are both amazing)
08/13/96 (goes so weird and Page busts out that Moog (?) all over)
12/06/96 (one amazing Simple and a beautiful, soaring Hood inside of Mike's and Paug? Hell yes)
Need to relisten to the '97 Grooves
07/17/98 (goes so mellow and beautiful)
11/27/98 (that Paug is out of this freaking world)
12/31/98 (for some reason, I love 1999 and when it opens up into another beautiful 98 Mike's, it's bound to kick ass)
12/30/99 (it's so dark, but ambient)

OK, so let's review what happened during that Mike's Groove.

Mike's is played and shortly after the jam starts, it segues into Simple. They jam on Simple for a bit, and before the Simple lyrics even start, Trey starts playing the riff to "Midnight Rider" by the Allman Bros., everyone else locks in and it turns into an instrumental jam on the song. Then Trey starts singing Catapult over the Midnight Rider jam, the rest of the band joins him and they sing the entire thing while continuing to play the music to Midnight Rider. They then segue back into Simple, and this time they sing the whole song. Then they segue from that into Icculus. As Icculus ends, they resume Simple again and do a quick run-through of the chorus before smoothly segueing back into the Mike's jam, which rages for a bit before segueing into Hydrogen, which then goes into Weekapaug.

So yeah, just an average night at a Phish show. I can see why it didn't make much of an impression on you. :)
