Im not a big fan of hard liqueur, but if its better for me then beer i need to find something i enjoy...
recently, i have tried Jim Beam (okay) and Segrams VO...(harsh)
They are not my favorite, but thats because i like scotch if i drink this stuff...but not in my beer budget..
i despise vodka...so dont sugest that..
but if you know a good scotch or whiskey on the cheap that would be good...(but not that cheap that i would die from it)
A bottle of Jameson or Makers Mark should set you up for real nice time.as much as i have enjoyed both...out of my price
Bourbon thread
I'll periodically buy a nice-ish bottle of scotch. $40 or $50 doesnt create as much sticker shock when its something thats gonna last like 6 mos. I'll only have a few fingers of that at a time. At a price point less than jamiesons, I don't think you are gonna find a lot of variety.
Wild Turkey (80 or the 101) are family favorites.
Johnny Red is really smooth for the price.
And when a big group of us are feeling saucy for an occasion, we'll handle-up on the Johnny Black.

Never even heard of it before now. Are you implying that i'm a pussy for drinking rum? haha
@mattsox94 said:haha not at all. Pussers is British NAvy rum and quite the hit amongst my family. It's not as sweet as Captain but it's a very warm taste.@Dino_Spumoni said:What about rum? Love me some Appletons and Sailor Jerry.Ever had Pussers?

Bleh. The captain makes me want to puke. Use to love it but then I had way too much one night and haven't been able to drink it since. I may have to seek out a bottle of Pusser's the next time I decide to indulge myself though.
Dash of maple syrup and maybe orange bitters for a VT style manhattan.
What about gin, @joonze? There's a huge variety in the different flavors and nuances there.
Ever had Pussers?"

Yeah I've never really liked the captain. We had our fun but bleh. Try Pusser's. I think you'd like it.
Love bourbon
I haven't had a bourbon in ages and it sounded perfect for a lazy Sunday evening.
Naw...I think I'm infused...
Was hoping for a high, but I guess that's not gonna happen tonight
From my experience Pusser's is straight fire rot gut. How about a nice glass of wine @joonze.No shit? Sorry to hear it was bad to you.
so, im not supposed to drink alot of beer because of calories...so i am drinking different types of whiskey to see what i like....How about taking it f***ing easy for a week or two kiddo.

Give your body a break and try something different.
When I can't drink - and even when I can I drink 8 27oz Kanteens of water a day - and 2-3 cups of Ginger tea.
Add 1 shot of http://www.ourniche.com/spirit/Schladerer-Williams-Birne/ this every o9ther day you'll be fine.
You can't heal when you poison your body. We dont need another RIP thread anytime soon.

@Joonze Jack Daniels on the rocks sounds like it might be up your alley. Affordable and the ice will smooth it out more and more as it melts making it easier to drink if you aren't used to whiskey.
@joonze said:Mom....i mean Mike...I am taking it generally easy with the drinking... after speaking with the Doctor about my bad habits, he said if i must consume alcohol, limit the beer due to the high calorie content and either have wine or liquor that is not mixed with sugary mixers....so, im not supposed to drink alot of beer because of calories...so i am drinking different types of whiskey to see what i like....How about taking it f***ing easy for a week or two kiddo.

I do have wine occasionally, but sometimes i like a good buzz without a large amount of consumption...
I know your concern is with good intention and i appreciate it. I am not doing anything that is against my doctors will and have taken his advice seriously.
The Moonshiners show really got me intrigued to try some white lightning (whiskey made from corn that has not been aged) so I went on a hunt and found this glorious little gem made in the Hudson Valley:

If you enjoy rye, Old Overholt fits into any budget. And it is the house pour for Old Fashioneds or Manhattans in many of Manhattan's old school bars and taverns
Bulleit is also nice, but more expensive

The new Clynelish 14 is my new bottle of choice- crisp, clean, not much peat, $60-70
Macallan 12 is (and always has been) the fall back- getting kinda bored with it personally (as I like to play with the peat kick, and experiment a lot), but as smooth, clean and refreshing as it gets! Bottle price ranges $40-50.
Ardmore 10- This is my personal baby, but not everyone digs. The original and highland super-peat- something you rarely see! Most peat-y whiskeys are islays (from the islands), which are what I like to refer to as "dirty". I HATE that shit, but Ardmore is a "clean" highland peat... Seems contradictory, no? It's THE SHIT, yet for some odd reason it's not distributed in PA- lame! I always stockpile a bunch of bottles whenever back home in MA- bottle's around $40.
Anyway, good luck man! And again, to those naming jameson and makers mark and canadian club- experiment a little! Not trying to offend y'all by insulting your drinks, but that (for me) is like recommending PBR as a good craft beer... :-P
