Lotus stream

Jimmymac03 Permalink
Jimmymac03 Shit. I'm mobile on a tablet. I honestly don't know much about this band but have been seeing the name for a long time. Then the other day at work this kid was feeling out about going to see them in Burlington soon. Where to start with Lotus?

lacesoutmike I like the older stuff circa 01-05. The recent stuff is still good but has definitely shifted to a much more electronic sound.

A good studio album to start out with is Nomad. My favorite album personally. I'm not a huge fan of Lotus post 2010, I think their sound has gotten a little too electronic/dubby sounding. So for live Lotus I'd suggest earlier rather than later stuff. Just my personal take on it. I'm in no way an "expert" on Lotus, but I've seen them a few times and listen to them fairly frequently.

Multi_Beast420 What happened to Lotus? They used to be so amazing. They're still a good band, and all of them are certainly talented musicians. But I can't help but feel that they've given in to "the scene" a bit, and as a result, compromised their own unique sound. I feel like they're getting more electronic/dubby in an effort to appeal to more fans, but I think it's turning a lot of fans off. I liked when their bass player just played bass. Now he's playing this ridiculously wobbly, low synth, and it just doesnt sound that good. This is just my opinion of course. But that's just my take. I just saw them the other night in Boston, and they honestly didn't even look like they were enjoying themselves on stage. Why are they covering Deadmua5 tunes and stuff like that? They have a great catalogue of music. It's really ashame. But that's just my take.

Completely agree. I really realized this at the '11 NYE show. I left that show so disappointed. Especially compared to the NYE show the year before, which was great.

Multi_Beast420 ^Same here man. I was at that show, and it was really a bummer. I hate to say it, but i think I'm just done going to Lotus shows. If they're at a fest that I'm at, I'll definitely be there for the set, but I'm not going out of my way to see em anymore. But on a lighter note, their opening act was really good the other night. Anybody listening to Moon Hooch? Those guys kick ass.

Jimmymac03 Okay I think I got it. Old Lotus is awesome, new Lotus probably not my cup of tee. You lost me at covering Deadmau5. They are still on my list of bands to check out though.

Pretty good mix of old and new tunes if you ask me. Slow Cookin bustout is long overdue. Great set, wish we could get set 2.

Euclid I'm probably going to see them in Dallas the 15th of Feb. They'll be playing with MH, looking forward to it.

nematode Permalink
nematode I think Lotus has gone full circle or at least beginning to come back around. They peaked with their electronic stuff 2009-2011, and recently have been moving back in a more funk direction. Their new album is supposedly very stripped down and natural, so we'll see where they go from here. That being said, I still see them every chance I get.

WGphan92 Permalink
WGphan92 I think they really hit a new stride within the last year and their shows have been on point... Going on Wednesday to the Syracuse show at the Westcott. Moon Hooch opener... Can't wait!!
I haven't heard much old lotus and don't listen to much outside of a show. But I've been to 4 or 5 shows since 2010, most recently at Catskill Chill, and each show has been better than the last.
