So I know that everyone is clamoring about Watkins Glen or somewhere else in NY. Or VT.
But do we have definitive evidence that a return to Limestone is out of the question? I know that the wikipedia page says the military has returned to Loring over the years, and that a Commerce Centre was built up there after 2003 ... but does that definitively mean that Limestone is not an option for another festival, or are we just speculating?
I know that the haters will simply say, "stay tuned brahhh, it's only January," but does anyone know if Limestone is officially out of the equation? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I like the pocono rumor. Although Watkins would be a dream come true. again.
I know that Limestone is super far, however ...
The Great Went - 75,000
Lemonwheel - 60,000
IT - 60,000
Super Ball IX - 48,000
I know that comparing numbers / the fan base from 97/98/03 to 2011 may not be fair (for many reasons) ... but I don't think it's fair to assume that a festival in northern Maine would necessarily attract less people, especially given Limestone's rich history. Additionally, it's possible that the further away the festival is (so long as it is still takes place somewhere in New England), the MORE people will attend. Part of the fun of the festival atmosphere is feeling totally removed, off the beaten path, etc. -- and where better to feel that way than beautiful northern Maine?

I do think that if they did do it in Limestone, the nostalgia would kick in and maybe there would be a good draw.
I was being generous, to avoid being challenged on that point. Other sources report attendance was as low as 30K ... further bolstering my belief that a Limestone festival would actually increase attendance, despite being super far.
This chatter and complaining about potential traffic issues makes the aging phanbase sound pretty soft, by the way.

One lane road in, no airport (actve) anywhere close, lack of hotel or rental properties in Limestone. All factors that would limit attendance there. I personally would skip it before going through what it took to get in and out of that place again.
To suggest that Super Ball IX's lower ticket sales is because of location is a little far fetched. I believe it was one of the most accessible locations for phans, but it happened to be held during a holiday weekend where many people could not get out of familial obligations. As others have pointed out, the aging demographic of the fan base makes it more difficult for people to just skip town for the weekend during holidays.
I would probably make a trip to Limestone if they happen to do it again, however I would prefer a festival that is more reasonably situated. No matter where the festival is, once you're set up, you're going to feel isolated from the world around you. That's just the nature of it. I think more people would prefer to have a 3-5 hour trip, as opposed to a 12-15 hour trip.

all those complaining about Limestone are softies. wah wah aging fan base. Part of the thrill and fun of Limestone was the wait. Meeting folks in the parking lot line, the sense of unbridled anticipation, will we ever get in??? If you are looking for convenience and hotels/airports whatever, stay on regular tour. If you are looking for an adventure, go to the Limestone fest. Its too early anyway. NYE was 4 weeks ago. Kids need to relax.
You have never even been to limestone so I don't know what you're getting at.
There is a functioning, active airport right there. (Who knows what their schedules look like?)
Low attendance at Superball was mainly due to the combination of it being a late announcement and it being on a holiday weekend.
I dont see any way to mitigate the traffic on Rt. 1.
Romanticizing that nightmare is delusional. Sure we made the best of it, but it was just a coping mechanism.
All that stated, I'd be happy to go back, but would give it less than 1 in 10 that thats the spot.
Limestone is 6 hours from the southern tip of Maine. Way the fuk up there. You could shoot a potato gun into canada.
If a new, remote location is in the works, you may have to come north of the border for this year's festie. We got lots of open space. Either that or Alaska, take your pick.
Who says its gonna be a freaking repeat location.. New year, new festival, new location, new phish album?A repeat isn't expected from Phish, HOWEVER, considering that this is a 30th anniversary year... they could.
At this point I'm just hoping the festy doesn't conflict with one of the 3 weddings we have to go to his summer...People get married everyday. Phish Festivals only happen once in awhile. Have them put the ceremony on skype.
superball maybe at 40 maxxxxx and thats pushing it. the fan base is there but not everyone has hundreds of dollars to drive to maine with.

Summer fest means no ca or fl

And I do think that they'll plan one last remote festival for the 10th / 30th year before taking convenience into consideration. Watched the IT dvd again the other night and each member made it pretty clear that the remoteness / the clear distances traveled by fans helped their focus and encouraged them to rise to the occasion.
Limestone is quite possible..I don't see any reason why it couldn't be there...That's all I was looking for. Not the wisdom behind it, but simply whether Loring was open for business. Thanks.

There's no way that the boys are gonna pull a fast one and do a 3 day run in like, Scottsdale, Arizona right?
