patper I still haven't heard these Amsterdam shows. I think they'll be the next shows I listen to. The setlists look sick!

conradjohansen I always forget about this Weekapaug. But it's so f***in' funky and psychedelic, blow my mind every time. These Amsterdam shows and 2/17/97 as well are all top notch. If Phish ever does Europe again and especially the Paradiso I will HAVE to be there. These 2 shows I believe were the first '97 Phish I ever heard. Didn't know what I was getting myself into at the time.

conradjohansen They break it down so much, so nasty. Trey just laying on his wah and Page playing his synth, f***in' dirty.

ckess22 great show front to back...the night before rocks, too...perhaps my favorite two shows. Will sing their praises forever.

kipmat Agreed, the second set jamming is so good that it overshadows an incredible first set. Interesting to note that first sets like this were unprecedented on 7/2/97, but by December '97 they were commonplace.

That stash is a must hear. I'd go listen to it quick. While you're at it listen to 7/9/97

July 09, 1997

Le Transbordeur, Lyon/Villeurbanne, France

Set 1: Punch You In the Eye > Prince Caspian, Ginseng Sullivan, Split Open and Melt, Dirt, Taste, Sweet Adeline, Harry Hood

Set 2: Down with Disease > My Soul > Cars Trucks Buses, You Enjoy Myself[1] -> Ghost[2] > Poor Heart[3]

Encore: Hello My Baby

[1] Béla Fleck and The Flecktones; Disease and Palmetto Quickstep teases, as well as Victor Wooten and Mike playing Mike's bass simultaneously. No vocal jam.
[2] Béla Fleck and The Flecktones.
[3] Béla Fleck and The Flecktones; Sanford and Son theme tease from Coffin.

Notes: YEM through Poor Heart featured Béla Fleck and The Flecktones (Béla Fleck, Jeff Coffin, Roy “Futureman” Wooten, and Victor Wooten), who were announced during the bass and drums segment of YEM and bounced along during the tramps jam. YEM contained Disease and Palmetto Quickstep teases, as well as Victor Wooten and Mike playing Mike’s bass simultaneously. Poor Heart included a Sanford and Son theme tease from Coffin. Pierre, a local Häagen-Dazs employee who the band met the day before, was repeatedly called-out by the band and was brought up on stage and serenaded during the encore.

Such a great, syrupy Ghost. I think it's my favorite appearance by a guest I've heard so far.

But what I was going to say is fish has got some sweet high power drumming throughout this entire Amsterdam show,
especially paug and llama

...and then move on to 7/1, 7/3, and 7/10 to ensure that your mind is fully liquified before you fly back across the Atlantic.
