Glad you enjoyed it, this video just perfectly sums up everything that I believe about religion and why we're here. It's incredible. This guy has a lot of other videos like this too, I suggest checking out his youtube channel.

ivy_light Science saves my soul probably everyday. And while the logical, mathematical language in which the natural world is written is elegant and beautiful in it's own right, it lacks the poetic nuance required to describe the incredibly poignant subtleties that characterize our relationship with it...let alone each other.

I am in awe of the world all the time. We are simultaneously part of it and yet removed for it.

"Jane, you ignorant slut"...(and now for some REAL philisophy/start at the 5:00 mark...if you dare)

That was interesting, so what do you believe?
Hmmm, well, in a general sense I believe in a creator, God. On a personal level I am a Bible believing Christian. The Trinity, supernatural Christ, original sin...debt paid in full, death defeated, eternal salvation etc.

BTW - sorry bout the slut remark...couldn't resist the SNL circa 1976 reference. And I'm not trying to proselytize or start an argument or anything, just wanted to point out that faith in God(even the God of the Bible) is logical and has plenty of philosophical and evidentiary support.

Peace

fishman4 Fair enough, I wasn't really trying to start a debate on this. Just trying to spread around a video I thought encompassed what I personally believe. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I certainly don't judge people based on what they believe.

BernardShakey Let me preface myself with this: I do not consider myself an atheist. I don't think that "everything has a purpose" is necessarily a sound argument, however, or even remotely 'knowable.' As we perceive nature, everything seams to have a purpose is closer to reality. To me the homo-centrism of all religions on earth (that I'm aware of) suggests their roots as fiction, their fallacy. I look up every night at the stars and, to me, it seems statistically impossible for sentient beings not to exist somewhere out there. Early man could never have accounted for this when dreaming up god and religion, it was unfathomable to him. I think we really want this place to have been designed for us, but I don't think that's the case. I don't know though, these are my theories so far.

fishman4 There isn't really any label I can put on what I believe. I don't believe we are alone in this universe, that's for sure. Looking at the basic facts about stars and galaxies, it seems almost ridiculous to think that we are the only beings on any of the planets out there. I personally think that if somebody truly believes that the universe was strictly created for us, they should probably rethink their belief system. There certainly could be a creator of some kind, but if there is I don't believe he personally created us or each individual person. If there is a creator of some kind, he built the universe and the universe to me is something where so many mathematical possibilities are out there that could create life. I think the conditions have to be perfect and the planet has to be really really lucky for life to start on it. I'm sure it's quite a rare occasion for life to form on a planet but to think that only ONE planet out of all the planets out there was able to spark up life is just absurd. Is there anything in the universe that you can absolutely be sure there is only one of?
