So I have been blessed with the opportunity to be working with PhanArt over the past few months. After getting comfortable with how the site works, I figured it was a great time to sit down and interview @CaptainPookie.
His art is amazing, as many of us know, so it was time to shine some light on his amazing talents. This was my first time interviewing some one, I hope you all enjoy the article!

Pookie is a really great person and his art is amazing. If it weren't for him I probably wouldn't be here on .net. We met at work right around SBIX and he taught me a lot about Phish and told me all about you awesome people so I just had to join.
I've always wanted one of his paintings but never have the extra dough to spend on it, although I'd really like to.
Ive had an equally intense emotional experience at SBIX during Show of Life, but that was because I lost a very close friend the that morning, so that had a lot to do with it.
My proudly owned Pookie painting. Absolutely love it.

Thank you kindly, Stowell. ("
> And It's humbling to see all the positive comments. In a Werd way I feel a little guilty having all this nice stuff being shown and said after I've pretty much become an apparition here on .net. But hey, my internet is my phone and I have a high-energy baby that is a real slave driver.
Life is nothing if not pepetually intense.
So what have y'all f***ers been up to? Tell me stories.
Hmm. Let's see, the first person to respond to this here offer gets a free Pookie painting.
But your response miust include the show you want painted and a little blurb about what made the show so memorable.
Aaaannnd.....GO!
At Ease,
Captain Pookie
I've been wanting one real bad for a while.
EDIT: @CaptainPookie and @mmetch, hopefully next time you visit NY I wont have a schedule conflict and we can meet up!
You got it Cam. Now hit us with what show you want and why.Story (or at least effort placed therein) better be on par with those in the thread I linked above! Entertain us!
The first thing that comes to mind is what I posted above, 12/30/12. particularly DWD> 20 yrs later> Carini but feel free to use anything else from the show that may come as inspiration. This was my 9th show, but during that second set, as I said above, I felt things I've never experienced before at any concert. The first set was definitely one of the most fun phish sets I've been at, but shit got real during that second set. The energy was the most intense thing Ive ever felt at a show, I find it very hard to put into words other than I was almost completely numb and had shivers and tingling feelings surged through me. It was way more than that really, but I cant describe it.
DWD was a seemingly never-ending journey, which kept me wondering where we were headed, until the last 2 minutes when it peaks, and my god was that ever a f***ing Peak. the > to 20 years later was flawless, and I never heard that at a show before. It was a much-needed breather from that Disease, but was still very eerie during the end. Then that Carini happened and all hell broke lose. Its by far my favorite jam that Ive witnessed. I love me some dark Phish, and it was at its best. Its during Carini that I went numb. I thought > BDNL was great, and helped get us back from the depths of hell, Julius was lots of fun, and then my first Slave! and a double, possibly triple, peaking slave at that. Hood encore wasn't Worcester '10 quality, but hey its a muthafuckin Hood Encore!
The show closer of Show of Life was great too. Ever since SBIX N1, I've been a sucker for Show of Life, because of its personal connection. (as you know, Pookie, that's the day we found out about Deb's passing. I tried to block my emotions and enjoy our hometown festival, but everything came flooding to me during that Show of Life, and its so far been the only time I cried at a show. No shame though, it was an incredibly intense experience. I felt like she was there with me, and Phish was singing it for me, in a very comforting way, like saying "its all okay." so every time I hear it now it brings me right back.)
So yeah, in a nutshell, that's my show experience. I hope you have a fun time listening, interpreting, and painting. I can't wait to see the finished product!!
ps- I like colors, and circles, and spirals, and fractals, and just all around abstract weird shit.
Funny though because you are also an author.
Also, I'm really excited to see this painting for Cam!
wooo!!! You're the best. seriously... we gotta try to meet up this Summer Tour. I owe ya!Not for nothing, but it actually sounds like SBIX should be the choice for you. While that 12.30 might have been your favorite set musically, from what you wrote I "hear" a more emotional connection with Show of Life from SBIX.

I understand what you're saying, but Im pretty certain 12.30 is the correct choice for me. Yes, SBIX was an emotional roller coaster of mourning, sadness, and also celebration and joy, and a previously unknown appreciation of Life, but those intense feelings and emotions really only surfaced during Show of Life. just one song, as opposed to the rest of the show. On 12.30, I felt unprecedented amounts of great energy. For the first time in my life, I was truly put into a trance by the music, like, completely in another world or realm of existence. This trance lasted for the entire second set. I knew something was special about the night during the Runaway Jim opener, during the opening sequence of the jam, when the band goes nearly completely silent. It was perfect. Everyone was so god damn happy to be in that room. I had been to 8 shows before that, including the 12.30.2011 show and it was fantastic, but the 12.30.'12 show was something of another caliber. It seemed like everyone there was happier to be there then at any other show I've been at. I've never felt the crowd so tightly connected with the band. For those 3 or 4 hours, we were one entity on a cosmic journey, guided only by four weirdos from Vermont. And i wouldnt want it any other way. IMO, the 12.30 show, as a whole, was on another level, and I feel its a better option for art interpretation.
Also, it can be noted, I didn't take any psychedelics or anything of that nature at this show, so that's why I'm so amazed at what I was experiencing. What Phish is capable of manifesting. Its really remarkable.. I've been at shows with some really fantastic jams, but this was the first time I left a show speechless.
It's gonna be difficult to top that show, personally, but I cant wait to see what Phish will do this summer!
And I can finally agree that there is something about MSG around NYE.
12.30.11 and 12.31.11 didn't do it.
I got MSG on 12.29.12.
