One of my favorite things about Phish is how organic they are. Sure, they have and use plenty of effects, but none that are critical to the music. Sound effects are not only distracting and fake, they're often the lynchpin for the songs that require them. If something goes wrong and you can't play the samples, you can't play the song. And that's the exact opposite of how Phish has always been. Having only actual instruments to lean on has required (or allowed) them to become more proficient and creative with less, and that has kept them lean and fresh. They don't require a bunch of specific gear or sample libraries in order to play great music. They're a bar band, not a circus act.

To put it another way, Phish could sit in on any band's stage that had drums, a guitar, a bass, and some kind of keys, and blow you the f*** away.

Thanks for posting this! I've searched for it before and couldn't find it. Looks like a Youtube search would have worked but for some reason I came up empty. Does anyone know if there's a full recording out there?

And on topic: I think he uses the perfect amount of effects/samples. I like Martian Monster and some of his synth stuff but wouldn't add any more. Although @leroy's suggestion for the sounds of adult vultures would truly be amazing.
