My cousin had a crack house set up shop a few houses down from him. He called the cops non-stop. They would come out and couldn't do anything without warrants. Unless they see something happen, they can't do anything. My cousin went vigilante and put up trail cams and gave the police a dossier of info and video. After about a year they finally got the house.

In my last house, we had two "pill" houses on our street. I would yell at them when they would openly deal in front of my house, they kindly moved their deals a few houses down. I would shake up buyers that would park on our street and wait (most would pull away when they saw me approach their cars with a German Shepherd and a mag light). I never called the cops on them, all my other neighbors did that. Sad thing is, there really is not much you can do.

Further story on how regular LEOs can't do much, sometime around 2002 I was robbed at gunpoint leaving a bar with two women one night. They took our phones, keys, and wallet/purses. I worked with the cops to try and do the sketch (it was a flip-book of different eyes, nose, mouth = very difficult and inaccurate). the main detective lady asked if there was anything else I knew that could help = YES. I had the two women get their phone records in addition to my own. From that I reverse phone directoried all the phone numbers the robbers called and found a few land lines and their addresses.
When I gave this to the detective with a map of the houses on it she called all the other detectives over to see what I had found and asked me to show them how I found what I did. After doing so, I asked what step was next = nothing. They couldn't do anything. I was pretty upset, I had given them specific locations where would could go positively ID the guys that robbed me and they legally couldn't go find the bad guys.

Without calling full on bull$hit, Ima gonna point out that in 2002, much of what you said in the last story was difficult for most to ascertain. I'll give you credit, if you were pulling up yours and your companion's cell phone bills in 2002 and tracking down the address' of the landlines, not to be confused with other cell phones, then you sir are one True Detective.

But I can't imagine you were that upset, because once again, this was 2002, much of what you describe was damn near impossible to figure out unless your last name was Jobs.
