The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
1st press UK 45 of the most badass song of all time. Like the beginning scene to “The Last Waltz”, the fact that “play it loud” is printed on there is an understatement to just how much the volume impacts the experience of hearing this song. Comparing to a remastered digital version, the scratchiest of Lennon’s voice is way more raw and distorted. I almost thought my speakers were popping. The drums on this song are my favorite of any drum recording ever recorded. And having listened to digital/cd versions my whole life, on this version you get the real sense of the echo that Phil Spector loved so much. The drums just really stand out and Its just the best.
After trying to find any earlier 45 of it in a record store, I said enough and went to eBay. The sleeve obviously is poop, but plays crystal. Only $8 and came from UK too.
Btw here’s a fun fact: this song was recorded in one day. Just incredible to me.
Now if we can just get another rendition out of Page this summer....
