You're kind of missing something I think.
Nobody is slumming at Sunrise.
The waterslide at Grand is a bit overrated, although I could see that being a draw if you have kids.
But the slide is not going to be the determining factor on if anybody has a good time.
It's very much a resort, and not a very good water-park. Don't expect that at all, even with Grand access.

i was exaggerating a bit. we did barcelo in 2019 and wanted to return for a diff resort i just knee jerked at how some of the amenities on website are unavailable unless you book a specific room. i guess that's commonplace at all inclusives but didn't seem to hinder us at barcelo in any way

There was the same thing a the Barcelo. A couple friend paid extra to stay at the palace.There was also an option you could pay extra to just get the amenities of the Palace without the extra cost of staying there. All these places have a special tier of activities, restaurants, etc.
