The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
Hi Drew - The thread is about me suggesting that the lyrics to STTTL be changed to “PAAAAAGE at a traffic light” which stems from my experience at AC last year where a black gentleman that worked at the venue who had been dancing and having an excellent time, and had gone over the top to assist my wife when she aggravated an old injury while dancing, became visibly disturbed when then entire crowd began throwing their hands in the air and chanting “SLAAAAAVE!!!”. I purposefully gave the thread a ridiculous title and made mock threats of not attending shows if it doesn’t change, as well as challenged anyone who disagreed with the change to push the levels of comfort people can have with disregarding the feelings of other kind people. It initially was an effort to give the thread some traction so it would stay on the front page of the board and the experience my wife and I had would be read by others, but quickly became an amusing, yet somewhat depressing, exploration of the levels of selfishness in the Phish community. It is an amusing thread, and I’d suggest reading it all. If you’d like deeper context to the event that was the inception of this, check out this thread my wife created some time back:
