The establishment has never been about "loving your leaders" - bad things have happened when it drifts in that direction. In the case of a Presidential election, sometimes the question is simpler - which candidate is likely to do the least harm.

If you want political leaders to better reflect your own POV/agenda, you have to start locally. With any luck some of those "local heroes" make it to the National Stage but, as they do, the skeletons typically start piling up in the closet. Politics is dirty business even if necessary. True change is driven by the people for the people.

Respectfully disagree. Most Dems legitimately adored Obama. Not so long ago (to an old bastard like me) Republicans practically worshipped Reagan. Both were hated by the opposition, but inspiring to a majority of Americans. Nobody can honestly say that about the likes of Biden or Trump.
