The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
I don’t read too much into that. Reason being - I’m thoroughly convinced the Haley is already pegged as the VP pick. And I think this would help support that, and would also dampen the effect of the dissatisfied Haley vote, which I assume the Trump campaign is aware is a valuable asset to hold onto.
The problem: MAGA loyalists denounce Haley even more than DeSantis. There’s numerous “big name” MAGA folks that have drawn the line in the sand that they’ll dump Trump if he picks Haley. I’m not convinced.
The reality: If Trump goes with Haley, the MAGA loyalists will lick the boot and claim that “besides Trump, nobody is more MAGA than Haley!” Just like they’ve done with Vivek in the last 48 hours. There isn’t any degree of “principle” at play here.
But if Trump goes with really anybody other than Haley, the Haley vote would probably disappear to a large degree.
The DeSantis vote will largely coalesce behind Trump, but there irreparable damage that’s been done there and I think a decent enough portion (15%?) of DeSantis voters have joined the “NeverTrump” portion of Republicans. I just don’t see how Trump has any real shot at winning without pulling in Haley and causing his loyalists to prove yet again just how unwavering they are to the erratic whims of Dear Leader.
So my basic prediction is: barring some historically dismal decline in the country between now and November, there’s no way Trump wins. You can pour another 10 million people across the border and jack gas up $1.50 and I don’t think it’ll change the outcome. I mean, there’s still the abortion pill case that SCOTUS will decide in the summer. You better believe that will invigorate a beaten down democratic base, that largely don’t like the idea of Biden in 24’ but will undoubtedly show up to vote for him if another four years of Trump is on the table. That SCOTUS case just cements it in my mind. I’m currently feeling that Biden wins all the states he did in 20’ but flips NC from Trump. We’ll see what happens.
