The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
I was at both of these [and '96 (first show), '97, '98, '03], and both runs were lights out. I've never been anywhere with pre-show buzz in the arena like Hampton.
It goes to '18 for overall consistency with great jams throughout. My personal highlights were Tweezer, Simple, and Waves. And the whole Tweeprize "prank" was pretty awesome. When they walked off night three after the More encore, there was a collective sigh (not b/c More isn't a great song, but everyone was expecting More >> Tweeprize). Then they come back out for encore 2 and we know it's on, but no...we get...YEM! Sick. Then they open the next show in Nashville with Tweeprize. Man, I love these guys. IMO, all three nights were excellent, but for me the jamming only got better each night. Fall '18 remains an all-time favorite tour for me—lights out micro jamming every set.
But it goes to '13 for original jamming. In particular, the Carini from night 1 and the Tweezer from night 3. The Carini was foreshadowing for all the "bliss jamming" we were to get in the lead up to the COVID break. It's almost like the band went back and listened to that one a few years later and it became a major style of jamming they'd explore for years to come. And the Tweezer was aliens-landing craziness, with Trey really pushing the band in terms of time. I hadn't heard another jam like that before, or since. Truly a stand-out from a style perspective. And that whole final set of '13 was amazing (perfect set?). I think the differentiator for me is that those amazing '18 jams could have come from any show that tour, but the '13 jams stand out as singular.
