The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
For those interested. But I've also been doing a massive clean out of all of my possession this year and really trying to minimize stuff, I've got a very small house and thought I'd be able to eventually own a single family home but have realized that is likely not in the cards, so rather than be a completist I'm moving to owning a small curated collection of albums I know I'll relisten to a lot.
New(er) music that has been doing it for me:
King Gizzard
Dogs in a Pile
TTB
Mdou Moctar
SLIFT
Sleep
King Buffalo
Disco Biscuits
Vieux Farka Toure
Seun Kuti
Khruangbin
Billie Eilish
Tycho
Karina Rykman
All these bands have been easy tickets, casual and fun musical experiences, totally different feeling crowds, and just made me happy. I'm not saying I won't be listening to Phish, but just not for a while.
