The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
Midnight hits, and obviously it's absurdly loud. The average wasted party-goer could maybe hear some non-specific Auld Lang Syne beneath the chaos.
And then we stepped into yesterday. NYE 95 Weekapaug starts. As if flipping a switch, the ENTIRE bar was immediately transformed into the most ecstatic, joyous dance party this side of, well, actually being at a Phish show. For the next four hours! Nothing but NYE 95 and 12.28.10 Worchester (which, incidentally, our bartender had recently returned from).
To me, this was the bait and switch to end all bait and switches. No way could I get the friends I was with that night to pay $50 to come see a band they knew only from my obsession. Hell, I bet I couldn't even get some of them to take a free ticket. And yet, here they were, dancing their fucking asses off to Weekapaug--something I could never get them to do with words--purely because they FELT the music. And maybe the vodka red bulls I kept pushing on them. But mostly the music.
So yeah, I like that version.
