The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
True, not all fans get involved, but, I am speaking in terms of the fans as a whole. Of course there are kids on phish lot that are strictly there for the party and that is o.k.; however, the majority are more aware and concerned with topics beyond "woot woot! lets get hammered"
Beyond the booths that are set up , there are also fan groups such as "the phellowship" , "the wharfrats", "SOP" Whom try to make a positive difference in the world both on and off the lot.
I think for some it is"just a phish show" ,but, for others(such as myself) it is going to church, its a spiritual experience and it's where i recharge from everyday life. When I am on tour or at a show I am reminded of who I want to be through my associations with other fans. Maybe I am just at a phish show, but, being at that show helps shape who i am and ,in turn, makes a difference in the world i live in by my interaction with it. Positivity can be contagious and i just don't get any sense of that from the video.
