The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
From my personal experience, there's a few things that come to mind
-Bring earplugs, eye mask, and some tylenol PM. Given how much amazing music there is, its real important to get quality sleep when you can. Like, real good sleep. This may sound like obvious advice, but it is crucial. The cabins are real small, so with the ear plugs etc. you won't have to worry about hearing roommates coming in and out, waking you up and all. Its just nice to get a solid uninterrupted sleep session every day. Makes it all the more enjoyable. And I prefer the Tylenol/earplugs/eye shade over some good ole xanax. Its a more "natural" sleep, doesnt have you feeling all fluffed out when you want to get back up and rage.
-There is NO overdoing it as far as costumes and accessories are concerned. Go nuts. Glittery, blinking lights, stars, you name it. Shit gets weird in a really awesome way.
-Drink water regularly (another seemingly obvious statement but also very important)
-It would be safe to bring along some sea-sickness meds just in case. I had a buddy last year get sea-sick and he was in complete misery for two days. Awful. Eventually an intentional overdose of greenery got him feeling better.
-If you partake in any extracurriculars, only bring paraphenalia you are OK leaving on the boat. You do NOT want to have anything with you when re-entering the US of A. This reality also makes the final night absolutely nuts.
-If possible, plan to stay in town for a night after we disembark. You do NOT want to travel the same day you get off that boat. Trust me. Made that mistake last year. Literally all you're going to want to do is stumble off the boat into a hotel room.
-Catch at least one sunrise. Theyll still have the disco rocking at that hour. Never will forget kicking it on the deck outside the disco, with Natalie Cressman and Adam Deitch, among others....just chilling at that point...epic stuff.
-Enjoy yourself. I started counting the days to JC12 before JC11 was even over.
See you there phan
