The Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we’re entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we’ve distributed over $1,000,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
Oh! Okay, I was wondering about that. It seems he doesn't get to the mid-west much. I know the very first time I saw him was in 1997-1998 so my assumption had always been he was a gen 1 or gen 2 fan. Probably more gen 1ish. I haven't seen him once since 3.0. On the other hand... The last time I saw more than 2 shows was 2004. I guess all of us get older and have more responsibilities. I think I wish I saw him at 3.0 shows because he reminds of being at my first show tripping my nuts off and being terrified of him at first, then I got to sort of know him.
Off topic - but I remember the first guy who ever sold me nugs in a lot. It was Alpine 98. I never forgot his face or his satchel or his bike. Then the last night of the 3 show run at UIC... This guy sits down. Looks a lot like that guy but with less hair and no curly mustache like he had back then. I asked him if he happened to be selling nugs at Alpine 98 while riding a wide seat bike with his wares in a satchel with a mushroom button. I also asked if he happened to be wearing round glasses at that time with curly mustache.
His wife dropped her water bottle and help up his very mushroom buttoned satchel and both of them were in shock that I remembered it. Then "Show of Life Came On." We shared this moment of wow... How do you remember me? I was the first bag you ever bought? I can't believe you remember that.
I had the chance to tell him how much a part of my Phish journey he was and how happy I was to actually get to see him again and tell him what it meant to me all those years ago. With "Show of Life" playing through that incredible 3 night run... I just couldn't help it. Tears were just streaming out of my eyes from happiness that time then and once again at UIC. It was bliss.
